Go to Tony's picture; you can barely see it under the "Eject" button. I've been debating on whether to remove my sticker or not. I know what to do by now.

 

So when I saw the warning, what it MEANT was that it wanted me to close a door?

I am, I fear, entering very hot water here, because I may be feeling on the verge of finally mustering my first angry words at this car!

I just conferred with my family, and what they recall was that the MFD said the battery won't fully charge unless you put the car into PARK!

The situation that provoked that warning was:

I got into the car, turned it on, put it into reverse, and attempted to back up. I was allowed to back up, but it squeeled and screached and showed the warning on the MFD.

So, of course, I thought that something horrible was wrong! We had just bought the car and sat there listening to the finance guy say, "You car is basically all computer. Nobody on God's earth understands it but the Toyota Mechanics and they don't really understand it. So it could cost you thousands and thousands, even 10 thousand dollars, or more, if you have something go wrong with that computer. And trust me, the day will come, when something will go wrong, and you will regret this day for ever, if you don't buy the extended coverage."

Mind you, he wanted something like 1800 or 2000 or more for this coverage. We turned him down flat.

So now, two days later, this screen is flashing this freaky message and an actual ALARM IS GONG OFF.

The words are about how we have not used or should use or better use Park.

So, forgive me, if I didn't immediately check to see of the doors were actually ajar! I don't know what got into us, thinking that the warning had something to do with Park! What were we thinking? What a bunch of bumpkins we were!

So now I find out you NEVER EVER NEED PARK! The car KNOWS TO ENGAGE PARK and that what we actually did was we left some door ajar?

Wow!

Igore the oddities, and enjoy the good stuff. That's what I try to do. Otherwise you go crazy.

My 06 has one and it's still there.

I think for those who never got it, their dealer may have peeled it off. When my dealer walked me thru the car at delivery, my salesman peeled off a # of stickers in front of me like the warning to not load multiple discs simultaneously into the CD changer.

The one I've done several times is so stupid I hate to admit to it. I've stopped to drop a letter in the mailbox, which is located on a hill in our town. Because of the hill, I've applied the parking brake, but that extra step causes me to forget to push PARK, so I've opened the door and got out with the car still in D. The Prius didn't go anywhere, but it started beeping at me. I expected the beeping since I had left it running, but it kept beeping, not just three little warning beeps. Every time I've been completely baffled as to why it was beeping and then - DUH - there's a great big message across the MFD telling me to shift to PARK before leaving the vehicle. Do they honestly think I don't know that? Well, yes, I guess that's true.

Yep, I've done that, too, in front of my own mailbox on a hill. I've also parked it, put it in Park and walked away without powering down. Too stupid to live.

 

Well this yanks me right back to my tech writing days. Programmers would explain why they worded an error message a certain way or why they never could or should have expected a user to do a certain thing and therefore could not have tested for it. This case is really baaad, in my opinion. User leaves door open. Tell user that he/she should engage park so that the battery can be charged. It fails to inform, it succeeds in confusing, and finally, it misinforms.

It makes me wonder how many other completely out-of-left-field messages are going to be sent my way.

Anyway, thanks for informing me. I did some tests and see that opening the door immediately yields the message. This really hurts though, because I am accustomed to comprehending software and why a particular bozo thing came about. This one, befuddles me still. I can't imagine why it couldn't say: Door ajar. Place Car in Park or Power Down and set the Break before exiting.

THANKS, I had to look at that image twice to notice it. It's so unobtrusive that I'm suspecting that maybe my car still has one?

 

My 2006 has that sticker. Who puts those things on and in the Prius anyway? The dealer? The assembly plant? Where?

I like the "Eject" button. Now everyone can see what the clear sticker looks like. I'll admit that I actually looked for mine and saw it. :blink: I'm keeping mine on just in case removing it hurts the resale value.

 

I really thought the Press P for Park was printed on the dash, and the clear sticker was just one of those things that they stick on to protect it during shipping, so mine came off the second day I had the car. Everyone seems to figure out P, but B seems to confuse them, maybe it should have a Select B for engine Braking sticker.
