Hi all, my 24 LE has only 22K miles on the clock, mostly driven solo. I just noticed the car is slightly tilted to the left. As I measured the distance from the ground to the highest point of the front wheel arches, I found the left side sits 8 mm (5/16”) lower. The difference is smaller at the rear. The ground is level and all tires are about the same PSI. The car drives normal on the road. I don’t know if it has been like this since new, because I never checked. My question is: Is this normal?
My '24 has less than 25% of your miles and is very lightly driven and my left front measurement is 1/4" lower than right front and left rear is 3/16" lower than right rear. Both left side measurements are identical and on the right side the rear is lower by 1/16". So indeed the left side is lower than the right side. You made me look. I don't see it but it's measurable. I'm certainly of the belief that this is all within tolerances especially given my left side steering wheel and fuel tank so I won't be going on any diet to compensate. But, what the heck, when I go to Costco everything heavy will now go on right side of the luggage compartment and I'll lean into my right hand turns now.
My gen 1 had a slight but noticeable list to the left. Seems pretty common. The transmission is left of center, and heavy, two big motors in it.
Agree, Toyota will most likely consider this within spec. Thanks for the measurements! I was thinking the exact same thing about Costco runs. Might as well bring my well-fed friend along to even things out a bit more.
Makes sense, probably more noticeable on the Prius since it's a light car I guess. Thanks for replying.
Before I sold my 5th gen 4runner, it was lower on the driver side by about 10mm. And the prius is noticeably slower on driver side too. Are there spacers available to place on the rear springs to help correct the toyota lean?
I bet there’re options out there. I just hope Toyota starts doing it at the factory. But it is not all bad, I do feel extra confident making left turns now.
I also noticed that the left side of my 25 XLE sits lower than the right side during the first week of ownership. I guess they all came off the factory like this. I also observed that the body appears slightly shifted to the left relative to the chassis, wheels, and suspension. The left-side wheels sit deeper inside the wheel wells compared to the right side. After noticing this, I started checking other 5th Gen when I see them on the street, and they all seem to have this slight shift. I think Toyota knows this, maybe this is why the camber is more negative on the right side from the factory to make it look more symmetrical.
