No, only 2004 thru 2009 1.5 liter engines will work.

Bought a used 2005 Prius with around 60,000 mils on it in 2010 for around 10K. In Texas, near Houston/Dallas. Fairly hot climate. After that I have been living in Portland Oregon. The sales people tried to push an extended warranty on me. I said "I prefer the risk" hehehe. Prius had a very good reputation already at that point. Fast forward to 2025. I have over 300,000 miles on the car. I had to replace the large battery once and have had other repairs, nothing too big, just repair due to aging. I did lose the cat. converter to theft and installed a shield over the new one.

I almost want the car to die so I can buy a Tesla. I love the Prius for the life expectancy and the gas mileage. I also love it for the fold down back seats. I have fit many a large object into that car, never having to rent a truck. Than you Toyota! Hoping to get another 100k - 200K miles out of it. .I'm going to gift my Prius to my 16 year old son in about 3 years if it's still alive.

Yes, it burns oil, around a quart every 5,000 miles.
Only get around 38MPG now. Was around 42-43MPG when I bought it.
I've recommended used Prius to many people.

I have 430k km (~270k miles) on my 2005; original traction battery, engine, transaxle. Bought with 38k km in 2012; list of repairs:

    Front wheel bearings twice
    Drive side CV
    Front struts
    Rear shocks 3x
    Muffler
    Center display
Fixed the combo meter (0.20 cap and and afternoon of disassbly/reassembly)
    Front and rear brakes once
Spark plugs and egr @ 270k km
    Water pump once
    12V battery twice

    ...for > 250k miles of driving :)

Original front suspension, rear wheel bearings, rad, thermostat.....the list goes on.

Still runs; exhaust has a leak, rust is starting to eat it....but still starts and gets me around while consuming 5L/100k.

    Highly, highly recommended!

    Faz

P.S. Just realized this thread is old!!!! Just excited to see anything about a 2005. ;)

2005 Prius does not have EGR, I think you meant PCV valve.

My '08 did 750,000kms before I took it off the road as a parts donor to keep my '06 on the road ...... The Gen 2 must be the most reliable of all the models, I'm seriously considering using the transaxle out of the '08 in my conversion of my '74 VW Kombi (transporter camper) to electric drive, they are ultra reliable and at the moment, parts from a dismantler are still easy to find .....
