First of all, finding this forum has been amazing. All the knowledge shared has been massively appreciated. I’m process of my head gasket replacement, and looking at my injectors I am wondering if it’s a good idea to just replace them or if cleaning with carb or break cleaner will suffice. if I’m replacing them, I’d prefer not to pay $100+ per injector since I am already about $400 into the project. Has anyone had any success with re manufactured fuel injectors? I can get all four, for about $80.
If I were you I'd avoid losing focus on the headgasket job as injectors are problematic at times for DIY folks. Once you get the headgasket done and everything is working well, make it your next project if you want. But combining too many additional projects into a head gasket jobs makes diagnosis way harder if things don't go as planned. As for which parts to buy, I always buy the cheapest possible parts to better be able to improve knowledge and experience of PriusChat community. It's surprising how often cheap parts end up working just as well as expensive OEM. Of course those rare times that it doesn't work out is a bit of a hassle... So if you want to do that for us it'd be much appreciated.
I just clean my fuel injectors with carb cleaner and replace the 4 vibration dampener gaskets and I recommend replacing the 4 fuel injector o-rings to the fuel rail. I didn’t replace my o-ring because they only gave me 3 in the kit, maybe I should’ve bought an extra to replace it but I’ll do that next time.
My favorite approach, if the injectors in the car are originals and there is enough time, is to send them to a facility that restores them and sends them back with a report of before/after test results. They go through a service regimen of pumping a cleaning solvent through them while a pulser actuates them and in an ultrasonic bath, and they come back with new screens and grommets and o rings. I don't have any of that stuff lying around, so for me it makes sense to send them to a specialist. The before/after results are good to have, because in cases where they were already in fine condition (which is common), you see that right off, so if you were trying to diagnose an engine problem you know you still need to keep looking, or if you see they really did perform poorly, when you put them back in and the engine runs well you have confidence it was what you did.
I've got a brand new set of Denso injectors prope nos for this model . Every car I put these in theirs no difference in anything fuel trims gas mpg etc I run thru about two tanks . And then switch back to my originals which no change nothing happens. Move to try next car . And so on. I would think 300,000 mi injectors should be changed personally in my Supras ma61 it was required for most part you could hear . The difference
