Hello beautiful people and community: I have a 2013 Prius 5 with 200k miles. I bought this car with all the lights on the dash lit up like xmas tree. I had to replace the steering rack as soon as I bought the car, as it wouldn't drive straight. I have C1464 code for my front right ABS sensor. I verified on techstream that it is reading 0mph. I replaced the ABS sensor, still didn't fix it. I replaced the wheel bearing (thinking maybe tone ring issues) and still didn't fix it. I unplugged the connector from the ABS module, and verified that the wire is in good condition, and both front ABS sensors reading around 1.2-1.9 megaohms. I really don't know what else to replace. I know these cars have issues with ABS, but not exactly the module going bad. Of the more than 4 dozen cars i've had in my life, this is the first time I'm suspecting an ABS module just going bad, and not reading ABS sensor anymore. Is there anything else I can test here before just buying another ABS module and pump assembly? What is the best source for those things? Thank You, and be safe out there
The ABS modules two of them go out on this car all the time you can read hundreds of posts about just that .
If the only code you have is C1464 for a specific wheel sensor signal, have you followed the full troubleshooting procedure in the repair manual for that code? Toyota Service Information and Where To Find It | PriusChat There are probably more answers besides "replace the sensor" or "it has to be the ECU". There's a PDF of the 2010 manual floating around but doesn't have that code in it. It may be a code added in a later model year. Might have to go on TIS to read about it.
is that just the gen 2, or gen3 also has same issue? I don't have the full repair manual, so... but really there isn't too much involved. I just find it crazy it would be the ABS module
The gen3 has two pieces on firewall that separate the pieces. It's recommended to replace both on gen3 see bulletins. We won't worry about gen2
Yeah, seeing that the only trouble you have is for a single wheel sensor signal, and you have none of the codes associated with the way the module usually wears out, I would for now keep focusing on the troubleshooting steps for the code that you have. Even that code's troubleshooting could, possibly end up back at the module (once you're sure you have conclusively ruled out the sensor and all of the wiring), but that isn't common.
Just an update - I changed out the connectors, crimped on new ones on the ABS sensor side AND on the car wire harness side paperclip in the OBD connector to reset the ABS, hit brake pedal 8 times, wait a long time... and it came right back. Still getting the code that it is not getting any speed measurement from front ABS sensor.
Can you help us compare the tests you've already conducted to the ones in that code's troubleshooting section in the repair manual? If you don't have access to the repair manual yet (you mentioned on July 30th you didn't), this page explains how to get that. Toyota Service Information and Where To Find It | PriusChat
