Dealer installed sirius won't turn on?

For those of you who got the sirius hardware installed free by the dealer (I got mine from Longo Toyota), here's a problem I've been experiencing:

I will be listening to Sirius, park and turn off the car with Sirius being the last thing I was listening to. Occasionally, next time I start up the Prius, Sirius won't come on at all. The Display will show the Toyota logo for longer than normal instead of the backup camera or whatever else, and then after about 20 seconds or so, there will still be no audio. The display will say "Sat 1" or "Sat 2" whichever I was listening to, but there is no sound or data on the display about the satellite info. I have to change the mode around to finally get sound, and it's usually FM, and when I go through the AM progression it won't even list any of the Sat modes at all.

The fix for this is powering off the car, and restarting it. Usually, all of the satellite functions work great again.

Has anyone had an experience like this?

    Thanks in advance! :D

Yep...mine does it every now & then.
I chalk it up to a glitch in the tuner turn-on relay.
For the record, I'm using the Tuner made for the Solara/Avalon in my '06 Package 4 (no Nav/no JBL).
I've had the tuner, antenna, and head unit all replaced (to solve the static problem referenced in the sticky....which was eventually cured by the jumper solution)
It did what you're describing through all those hardware changes, so I assume it's not unique to my tuner.
My workaround had been what you described....powering off then back on.
Not a fix, I know, just another who can share your frustration.
    Cheers

I am experiencing the exact same problem in my new 07 Prius with a dealer-installed XM radio. I had the JBL sound, "satellite-ready" radio. They've serviced it twice already and the problem is still not fixed, so they've said that they'll replace the entire unit and try relocating it. The installers claim that the problem is that the receiver overheats.

Just to reiterate, here's how the problem manifests itself: I'll be driving along enjoying my satellite radio, when the system will suddenly switch to the AM radio settings (just static in my car since I don't have AM presets) If I click the "AM/SAT" button, nothing happens and it just stays on AM radio. If I click the "MoDE" button on my steering wheel, I cycle through AM radio, FM radio, CD, then back to AM radio. It's as if the satellite receiver wasn't even installed.

I've only had my car for four weeks, and this has happened about five times. I'm not sure, but I think the problem happens only when I plug my cell phone into the charger in the center console.

I've had that problem from day one. It only happens once every couple of weeks. I think it may occur when I attempt to start doing things in a hurry, before the various ECU's fully boot up. I think it may be a glitch in the MFU coming on line before the Sirius/XM box comes on line and the data scan deciding that there is no Sat radio hooked up. It's so hard to reproduce that I haven't even complained to the dealer. The far more annoying shortcoming is the 10 character display limitation.

This only happens upon start up. It has never happened while the car is operating.

I brought the car back in to the dealer this morning and they replaced my XM receiver unit. They supposedly installed the receiver in a different place that wasn't going to overheat, though I admit I didn't get the details on that. I had to call XM to activate the new radio ID, and all seems to be working okay.

I'll have to drive and listen for a few weeks before I can report whether this intermittent problem is really gone. Here's hoping!

Nope, this problem is still with me after three trips to the dealership. I've seen it twice since the new year. I suppose I feel bad complaining about something that only happens once every other week, but I've got a one-hour freeway commute, and having nothing but terrestrial radio one day out of ten really kills my happies during the drive. I can't get the XM radio to come back on without powering off the car, so once it's gone I'm stuck.

Can anyone else report any experience with a similar problem? I am at the point where I wish I hadn't bought this car because of the difficulties I've had with the integrated XM.

My dealership gave up on me today. I told them that I thought the reason my XM radio dies intermittently is because they gave me some version of the Solara 10-character radio instead of the new Toyota XM tuner. I asked for one of two things: (1) a Toyota XM receiver capable of 16-character display, with the Toyota fit kit, or (2) a refund of the price of my XM accessory so that I could get someone else to put in the correct system. They chose option 2, and removed my tuner and kit. Superkudos and thank you to Prianista, who posted a photo of the 16-character display that helped me negotiate this resolution with my dealer.

It makes me mad that a Toyota dealership sold me an XM accessory package as part of my car purchase, and then put crappy non-Toyota parts in my car. I made the mistake of assuming that when you go to a dealership service center, they use Toyota parts. I'll ask next time.

Is anyone aware of a service center in Maryland / VA area that can put the new Toyota XM tuner in my car?

Factory Interactive does installations in the DC area.

I have a Factory Interactive unit. When I went to the dealership we also tried the one directly from Toyota just to see if it works. It worked as well. They are the same identical unit. I have the same problem every now now and then. It seems to happen when I don't wait for about 10 seconds before I put my car in reverse to back out of the garage. I chaulk it up to impatience. When that happens, I power the car off, and re-start. Then, everything seems to be fine. I mounted my unit under the passenger seat, for easy access if I need it. :)

When I bought my 2006 PRIUS from Longo (Sep 2006), it came with a free SIRIUS receiver and 9 mo complimentary subscription.

All functions operate just fine except for two things:

Many signal drop-outs (even on an open freeway)
The “Text†mode displays only 10 characters per line.
(If I’m not mistaken, this indicates an outdated receiver)

Talked with the Longo sales advisor about this and he said that:
    These are known issues,
They are waiting for updated part(s) and until these arrive they have stoped installing the sat radio on new PRII

Any wise words on this issue?
