I'm not sure if a thread has been created about this yet (I couldn't find one) but I was able to swap the factory 11.6" stereo in my 2018 Prius Prime with one from a 2021 Prime. It was a direct swap and very easy- only 2 bolts holding it in and all the wire connections were the same. Now that these cars are becoming a few years older it looks to be easier to find 2020+ units from wrecked cars. After looking on and off for the last year I just scored a 2021 for $280 from a car that was wrecked with only 43,000 miles on it so the unit is like new. I still would prefer physical climate knobs some days but the Apple CarPlay has given the car a bit more tech life!
Nice - I assume you had to match the serial number from your old 11.6" display to the 2021 one, correct? Also, is Carplay wired ?
Which number are you referring to? I didn't end up matching any part numbers since I didn't want the same model without CarPlay that I already had. When I called the junkyard to confirm the part listed online was still available, I told them I had a 2021 Prius with a Face ID number of E7057. My original 2018 was E7051. Yes, it's wired CarPlay. There are modules that can be purchased to take a factory wired CarPlay and make it wireless, but plugging in doesn't bother me enough (for now haha) to look further into it.
Sorry - meant the number you posted. I call it a serial number - didn't realize they used different terminology. All I know is if the number doesn't match the one it's replacing it won't work in your Prime (having had to replace mine last year).
Weird. Did you try one that straight up didn’t work? My new part number and Face ID/number on the front corner are totally different and it worked without having to do anything extra.
