Gen 2 with 242k miles. Failed emissions in NY. Check engine light is on with the following codes ( P0420, P0300 P0301 P0303 P1150) The red triangle also popped on with the temperature warning on dash.

is it worth the $ for repairs or should I sell for parts? I have a green bean battery with lifetime warranty but used CATS are no longer legal in my state.

Rust? No point fixing the mechanical parts if the body is about to fail.

First thing I would say is to crack open that tight nice person wallet and buy 4 new sparkplugs. All those misfires could be causing you have a cat code, because, well, you have a sht ton of misfires...if it's not something simple like $30 worth of sparkplugs, you may need to dig a little deeper.

The P1150 is a O2 sensor/mixture issue which may be triggering the other codes; but the over temperature lamp is concerning. Get it properly diagnosed by someone who knows what they're doing and go from there. How much oil is it burning??

In my copy of the repair manual, this code is about the CHRS/engine temperature. Specifically, the car suspects clogging in the line as the engine temperature has not increased to the temperature it was expecting.

Good catch! On a gen2, thermos water pump and/or coolant switch valve. On a V6 Toyota, it's bank2 O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold.
Bit of a brain fart there:whistle:

Good place for a reminder that all P1 codes are manufacturer defined—Toyota is free to have P1150 mean different things in every car model they make if they want, and none of those things be the same as what the same code means in any other manufacturers' cars.

If you have a P1 code and you are trying to look up what it means anywhere except the Repair Manual for that car model, you're likely to find stuff that's not what it means at all.

Failed inspection due to emissions (P0420) and cylinder misfires. Changed my spark plugs today and all misfire codes stopped but new codes came on. P1116, P1117 and P1121. Topped my coolant tank which was very low but still popping on with the temperature warning and red triangle.

Ran dr Prius battery life test with my OBD2 and scored 85% but it does say it’s running warm,

You guys think with the Cat P0420 and coolant issues it’s worth repairs? 2007 with 250k. Today while flushing Cat cleaner through I lost all acceleration and needed full reset to get home. Not sure what to do.

Get your coolant filled first. Needs stand at top of filler neck 5 min without dropping leveltop off jug and cap. That'll make all your coolant sensors definitely be submerged . Clear codes . Drive and see .

Did you check the coolant level inside the radiator? You need to remove the metal radiator cap to check the level. The plastic tank is just an overflow.

What app are you using to scan for trouble codes? I am asking because it looks like it is not capable of reading all the trouble codes that the car has. Based on the picture of the warning lights on the dashboard, you have codes for the brake system, TPMS, and hybrid control system, which the app that you are using, are not being reported.

You need a better scan tool to read all the codes that the car is trying to tell you about. Read post #1 and then scroll down to post #37 in this thread, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3246758
The Autel AP200 is a very capable scanner for your Prius and costs about $60 on Amazon.

You need to bust open your radiator and top off the coolant until it stands at the top of the filler neck for 5 minutes without dropping then ride and check for the codes again

I have veepeak obd2. I ran it today and it’s running hot. I did what I’m able to myself (changed spark plugs, ran cat cleaner, changed temp sensor) but I gave up and brought it to the local mechanic for a quote. The fact you can’t buy a used Cat anymore is insane. I understand theft is rampant but how does this help? They can still steal them and smelt them down and sell raw materials no? And I’m stuck having to decide if I buy a new 2k cat for a 18 year old car.

What app are you using with the veepeak odb2 Bluetooth dongle?

Did you check the coolant level in the radiator?

I have car scanner and dr Prius. I didn’t check radiator levels yet. It’s currently at the shop awaiting a quote

Those two apps will not read all the trouble codes in your Prius. I recommend buying a more capable scanner. See post #11 for my recommendation. You can not fix the car correctly unless you know what all the trouble codes are.
