I recently visited my relatives in Niagara Falls, NY, from Canada in my Prius plug-in, for a weekend.
As usual, when I crossed the border, the car audio announces "Welcome to the United States".
However, I wanted to change the car display from metric to US ("US Customary Units", to be precise). The car does display mph in default mode, but it is displayed in small, grey on black figures above the kph display, and distance is still in kilometers.
It takes at least six key presses to switch the car over, and it is not obvious how to do that. If you haven't already looked up the procedure before you departed, forget it.
But more importantly, I would have to pull the car over and park it, to do that.
My US relatives told me their car automatically switches between units when they cross into Canada. I speculate that the Prius does not do that because in Japan they never cross an international border with different units.
But this would only take a minor software update for the Prius. The car already knows when it crosses the border into the US and back. And it already knows US units.

our 2010 gen 3, there’s a button on the dash, adjacent to hour/min buttons (for clock reset). AFAIK it’s a single push to switch mph to kmh and vice versa.

My 2 cents, the main reason they’re going to complicated touchscreen is it’s cheaper.

i agree, it is the last thing on toyotas mind. they even forgot it in the first year of gen 4, after having it for over 10 years and at least 2 generations

Early in the first year, and then they corrected it for later production. they claim there is no way to update the first ones though.

i read a story about a saudi high rise without a sewer connection. it showed a line of septic pumpers lined up.
but it may have been a joke
