Please don't let his enthusiasm do more than enhance your skepticism. Along with Sandy Munro, I have a lot of respect for this presenter. Every point he makes matched my understanding of Engineering. There are some minor technical details we would disagree with such as automated driving. Regardless, he is showing a well designed car. A surprise to me, leasing being cheaper but this may be a transient event. Source: I am not shopping for my next EV. If when I am, I can get an acceptable quality, automated driving package, even 3d party, I would consider a Licid in the future. In March 2019, Lucid was not an option so I bought a Tesla Model 3 and paid extra for AutoPilot. Bob Wilson
Lucid has better drag CD than a tesla, but a higher price that doesn't quite pencil out comparatively.
i'm more of a 'where's the $25,000. ev?' kind of guy, but i guess they are trying:lucid-motors-affordable-electric-cars-details
It is the best car in the world if you can afford luxury cars, better than the comparatively priced Tesla Model S. They also need to introduce el cheapo models like what Tesla did with Model 3 and Model Y so that they can actually make money. Their ADAS isn’t up to the competition yet, and that is an area they need to work on.
Exactly... I'm not going to be impressed with a car design that's in Lucid's price range of $75K to $250K. And the worst part about that price range is there's not enough rich buyers available to keep the car makers out of the red at that price point. You have to sell a huge amount of volume to not go broke in the car making business! But a BYD EV with Sodium-Ion cells for $15K and you're talking about a vehicle that's more affordable than a brand new gas engine car and I'm going to be very , very very impressed with how advanced that technology is. It is, in fact, so advanced that European and American car makers will do everything they can to get them banned / keep them banned from their markets because their car makers will never be able to compete with an engineering accomplishment as brilliant as that.
They have a "studio" not too far from where I work, and their website shows a lot of used ones. Available Vehicles | Lucid Motors
Tesla, or lucid. Lucid, or tesla. Decisions decisions. Oh wait, maybe after either has a service center less than an hour away? That's for starters. Gotta give Tesla credit for expanding Service as much as they have but there's a lot of the country that still needs fill in locations. One thing similar with lucid and rivian, very sparse on the service locations. .
not sure that chevy is any better. some dealers don't service ev's, some don't have a specialist, and parts can be difficult to come by.
None of those issues are really happening around here. There's usually two EV trained techs and if it's a non EV specific issue, any of the techs can handle the repair. As for parts, if it's not in stock, the regional warehouse can usually ship in a day.
I did not have a good experience with Nissan and their EV "repairs." I went for just a key to be made, had an appointment, drove over 70 miles in a car with a 75 mile range over a mountain pass through a rain storm, barely making it there, only to be told that they couldn't make me a key because they didn't have any EV technicians.
FOB cloning has come quite a long way. I think Prius owner were the 1st to figure out a voodoo chicken dance on how you could clone a fob without having to get ripped off by the Stealership. & that was back on Gen 2. Our 2 yr old Silverado had need of a spare fob & through online videos was able to use their chicken dance process to clone a key. I screwed it up. That caused all of the fobs to be dead. Found another chicken dance for the different process when you had no valid working fobs. Pretty cool. Sure beats paying high prices while waiting a couple weeks to get your appointment slot. .
I am surprised the dealer even made that appointment without any EV Technicians! You were pretty brave to drive 70 miles with a 75 mile range!
I was driving that same road twice a week in that same car the whole year I owned it! On the way back it's a total of a 2,000ft increase (I think it's up 6,000 and down 4,000, or something like that). So I had to start out creeping along at 25mph so I would make it back with enough charge. And I only ran out of charge once (and in a dead zone for cell service on top of that). I remember it clearly, it was a -15 °F day. I know, I'm kind of crazy. But hey! After that, I'm sure I can make any EV with more than a 75 mile range work. There are now some charging stations along that road, whereas before I didn't have any choice but to just keep going the 70 some miles. If I got an EV again the main problem would be if I needed to head south. It's just over 90 miles until I reach a charging station. Well, that and it can get very cold, snowy and there are a lot of steep mountains.
maybe in your area, but overall, people are waiting months for replacement batteries and other ev specific parts. and now they've stopped making volt batteries, from what i read.
