2008 Prius. While taking the 12 v battery out, my daughter said the end of her socket wrench briefly touched the other terminal causing a spark. Now no dash lights are showing and the car will not turn on. The 12V battery shows full charge with my meter. I have checked the AM2 fuse in the engine compartment and fuses 15 and 30 under the dash. Any other fuses I should check or things I should try?

I have Techstream, but cannot check codes due to the above issues.

Well this is why you want to be careful with daughters and wrenches. If you're 12 volt battery has 12 volts try undoing the neg terminal crackling noises make the door open red lite up when it does your display will work when you open the door step on the brake and push the button.

I started with mine at months of age seriously . She had some snap-on wrenches before she had baby toys clean new snap on steel wrenches she actually like them better than the play school plastic toys because they made neat noises when they touched together and things like that she played with till about 7 or so still has them today . She works on microelectronics in the computer industry she uses tools so small and magnifying glasses so powerful it's like surgeon working on heart valves or such. Never had huge interests in girl stuff neither did her mother .

The snap-on wrenches work great for teething because they're nice and cool to your gums when you apply them . That's why I gave them to her new nice and clean.

At 9 I took her to Athol Mass to real tools being made . She loved that trip . Seeing machine tools turn spiral strips of metal right on the floor was really cool .

I sense we have taken a rabbit trail... lol!

With no alternator, what would cause the 12v battery not to charge?

Thank you. Spot on! Bad battery. I took it to Advance and they replaced it.

Now with that resloved, it is displaying POA08 and POA09. Bad inverter. I replaced the one my 2004 Prius about 8 years ago. No problems since.

Any new information on replacing the inverter?

Not understanding your reply. I plan to get a used inverter from a local salvage yard.

Is there a way of testing the inverter before purchasing without the car running?

Those two codes do not (necessarily) mean you have a bad inverter, unless you get to the end of the P0A08 diagnostic tree and come to the conclusion that the inverter DC/DC converter is malfunctioning (P0A08).

For the P0A08, there is a lot of checking involving the 100 A fusible link block assembly. Before that, it also has you check the auxiliary battery (12 V) cable connections at the places listed below:
    • The battery's positive and negative terminals are not loose.
    • The body ground of the battery negative cable is not loose.
    • The FL (fusible link) block nut is not loose. This is the FL on the positive post of the 12 V battery, not the one in the engine room fuse box.
If they are not loose, proceed to the next step. If they are loose, connect or install them securely.

P0A09 is about there being low input into the DC/DC converter.

Both codes also have you checking connectors for loose connections and cables for continuity – i.e., there are no broken wires.

I also seem to recollect @ChapmanF relaying his experience where he found out the DC/DC converter was not what a lot of people assume it is. I might also be mixing up tales, as the recall does not always work accurately these days.
