Hey guys, just wanted some opinions on my car situation.

2005 prius, having some issues, and of course now my obd2 scanner won't connect to Dr. Prius. First off i had a faulty rear brake pad come off and locked the wheel up. At low speed thank god. So I had the warning brake lights on. Tried to reset them using the paperclip method to no avail. Soon after I began experiencing the usual bad module code, and a few weeks later I received the code where there is a high voltage short to ground (don't remember the code).

So I finally got some time to work on the car, and now I can't use Dr. prius. It just doesn't show up in the app to connect to. I have cleared all of my bluetooth devices, restarted my phone, tried it with the car running, not running, ready mode, just never comes up. I have the Panlong obd2 scanner that is recommended on the Dr. Prius website. I know it's not as great as techstream, but it has been good enough for me until now.

Has anyone had these devices just quit working? It still lights up, and has a constant red light while plugged in. Also it is probably around 8 years old, maybe 10 I can't remember.

So also if it's not the obd2 scanner, does that mean that I messed up the plug by inserting a paperclip into 2 of the holes...

Since this has worked for me for the last 8 years, has there been any updates to which obd2 scanner works better nowadays? I realize a simple option to test the port is to buy another one, but just wanted to hear from folks if I should purchase a different one before buying the same old one. Or has the Dr. Prius app became obsolete? Or am I missing something super simple that I can't remember... idk

    Any advice is appreciated thanks.

Plug the OBD2 dongle into another car and see if it works there. The dongles do go bad sometimes, as can the port in the car. I suppose it is even possible that the bluetooth circuity on the phone has failed. So having positive control is useful in figuring out where the problem lies.

Definitely agree with that, just have never used it in another car. Or another scan app for that matter. Shouldn't be my phone because I am able to connect to other devices via bluetooth. Will be a process of elimination I suppose. Hoping its just the obd2 scanner, don't even wanna think about replacing the actual port...
