    Hi All. I’ve got a Gen 1 Prius question. I have a GEN 1 in the shop that has weird shutter or vibration that seems to happen mostly when the HV battery is charging. I posted a short video where you can hear the sound. I just rebuilt the HV battery, not only replacing the bad modules but also balancing and load-testing everything. It was doing this before the rebuild, too. There are no codes showing up. I checked it with a Snap-on Solus scanner, and the live data looks normal for the most part. The only thing that pops up now and then is a misfire code, but it’s not consistent and jumps between cylinders, so I don’t think it’s engine-related. Does it when in park, at a stop and I can feel it when under a load. That’s why I’m wondering if it could be something electrical in the inverter or transmission area. Anyone run into something like this or have any ideas on what to look at next? Thanks!

    Any vibration while charging in Park could very likely be due to the misfire. First steps: clean MAF sensor, check/replace air filter, check for vacuum leaks.

    While you got the air box off for the MAF sensor, go ahead and swab out your throttle body. I like to soak up some of the oil in the intake too, although not sure what good it does.

    Being in Colorado, I'd check the vacuum valve on your cat - those like to rust up and stick. Also check your fuel filler tube up inside the rear passenger wheel well. Snow packs on top of it against the body and rusts a hole through the tube - which can mess with your fuel system vacuum and cause misfires.

    Upvote for RonLewis suggestion that you may have water in the fuel (based on the long-sit comment in the original post). Either drain the tank or run the fuel down to zero bars, then fill with fresh premium gas and drive some number of miles. Once the stutter is taken care of, then look at the fuel fill pipe and fuel fill port for rust. I THINK the fuel fill pipe assemblies are still available at RockAuto (about $100).
