I believe that Elon Musk said that the boxy shape of the Cybertruck is due to the fact that stainless steel can not be pressed in a metal forming press. But we all know that a stainless steel sink is formed by pressing. I'm no metallurgist, but something seems off here.
If he is using 400 series Martensic grades, he's correct. 400 grades are also more likely to corrode. 300 Austensic grades such as 18-8 304 is easily formed by pressing, Flatware, pots, pans and kitchenware are made by press forming. Press forming imparts work hardening to Austensic grades for the effect of structural strengthening needed. Musk just made a bad choice. Evidently, he knows less than you do about metallurgy. He understood metallurgy less.
meh. The DeLorean had a lot of straight lines in them because: the 80s, but they also has wheel well flares. As far as Musk, I can go for days at a time without worrying about what he says about this and that. I feel about the same way about him now as I did when I drove my first Prius back in 2010. My neighbor has a 'door stop.' Not a particular fan of the look, and it's an idiotic way to spend nearly 90K - but you have to admit that if some Blue-hair throws a hand full of gravel at your truck it will do approximately $0 worth of damage. It's nearly impossible to roll one over, and if I got to pick getting into a crash with a Prius or a Cybertruck? Or drive on a non-paved road? Or in bad weather? No contest. You can haul 120 ft2 worth of nasty garbage, cinder blocks, or a refrigerator.....tow a BIG boat - at least for a few miles, and SOUNDLY beat nearly all Corvettes from light to light, AND also beat the MPG rating of ANY wireless Prius......and their owners do not have to worship a gossamer thin paint job or super fragile interior. AND? They do NOT have a 12vdc aux battery. They have a lot going for them! BUT!!! They are also uglier than a US Senate hearing, they have Tesla's famous hit-and-miss build quality, parts availability and repair network. They have a real-world driving range that's shorter than Biden's attention span, AND they have the stank of a lot of jilted leftists on them! That will at least depreciate their value enough to make up for the fact that the US government isn't bribing people with their own money to drive them.
I doubt the wedge shape has anything to do with rollover. I think it has more to do with a low center of gravity. "Auxiliary battery" has several potential meanings. Some apply it to the 12V battery, but in my case, I have added one as a "camper battery" equivalent, separated by a battery isolator. It's perfectly safe and effective for any vehicle. I'm not sure why some hysterical ninnies have their knickers in a knot about it. I couldn't be happier; it has saved me from a dead battery more times than I can count. It's not like I care too much about what Musk says, but he should be accountable for his claims about his products. So the Cybertruck can haul a lot of stuff. Big whoop. No surprise, given a certain cargo space. Not like some major engineering hurdle has been achieved.
He is. THAT is EXACTLY what makes capitalism work! Checked Tesla's stock price lately? Their street price fluctuates wildly because their CEO has diarrhea of the mouth, BUT they're not asking for a government bailout - and the price is near an all-time high DESPITE the fact that (THANK GOD!!!) ....the US government is ending BEV subsidies. The Cybertruck isn't intriguing because it can haul lots of stuff or tow 10,000# My $35,000 GMC can do that! It's intriguing because it's also faster than a false rumor, and gets 95MPGe, it's crashworthy, and has an exterior that resists door dings and scratches.....and nearly FSD.
