This is preventive, my sister didn't tow or drive under extreme conditions either. It's a bone stock car that gets loaded up for camping trips once or twice a year; yet she has an intermittent slip every once in a while for about 2-3 seconds.

Thanks, good point, sad that they would charge about $150 just to spray a can of cleaner, you got me thinking that maybe from now on I need to start asking them exactly what are they doing for the cost of labor, it would likely be awkward for them to admit they spray a can of cleaner

PS: That brake resurfacing thing is a new one... With the amount of regenerative braking ability your car has they were probably cleaning them up from lack of use. Maybe they used a buffer on 'em and charged you $40 for a squirt of polishing compound?

If you replace wipers yourself, and take the blades off in the process, place a rolled up towel on the windshield, where the loose arms would thwack down.

    I’d second transaxle fluid change.

Good idea about the towel !

Transaxle fluid change sounds like a good idea, I'll have to check and see if the manual suggests a certain mileage level for that.

Hey, the reason we got a Toyota was because my wife knew someone who had a Toyota (not a Prius Prime) with over 400k and still running great and she wanted us to get a Toyota so after research we decided on the Prius Prime, and we have no plans on trading it in.

then a tranny fluid change would be a good idea in the near future, and then every 50k or so.
toyota calls it lifetime, and that would be around 150k. so they don't include it in the schedule.

Thanks, didn't check the schedule for that yet so now I know why it would not be there.

For regular usage, Toyota says nothing about transaxle fluid change. IIRC it is spec'd for certain conditions, towing (which is NOT recommended).

The gen 2 Repair Manual didn't have a transaxle drain-and-fill instruction, just a level check. It was added in the gen 3 Repair Manual. Subsequent Repair Manuals as well.

My 2 cents: an early transaxle fluid change, say around one year or 10k miles, is warranted, just judging from drained fluid colour. I did one around then, and two subsequent, at longer intervals. With the last I resolved to leave alone for a good while; the drained was nearly indistinguishable from the new.
