If the courts rule against the current administration - there's going to be a MASSIVE budget gap. Rosy tariff and fee forecast was used to justify the increased government spending. You know how it goes; spend first and oops, we didn't get as much money as we projected.

MAGA farmers are losing their farms and blaming it on the Democrats.

That's what politics are all about, a blame game.

I went to the job with a fellow worker who listened to his conservative podcast that went on and on how the liberals have this deep state that is secretly trying to make the USA a third world country and kill off all the citizens in a civil war and through acts of terrorism.

 

I have absolutely zero empathy for someone who shrugs and says "that's how things are."

 

Nobody has empathy these days.

I feel like a stupid idiot of mentioning some of my problems here on this forum because nobody cares. My kids watched their mother die a horrible death yet nobody cares. It must all be my fault.

Is lack of empathy because more people are now diagnosed on the spectrum? Is that because of so many chemicals in our over processed petro chemical fertilizers & pesticides? Food dyes? Multiple vaccinations? Poor parenting? Who knows

 

People with great influence actively discouraging it?

Empathy isn't a sin. It's a risk.

I do get the sense from history that the project of getting smart bipedal primates to change their behavior in a more-civilized direction has been very long and slow and fraught with difficulty, depending for every inch of progress on steady, consistent application of the best ideas from centuries of religions and philosophers and teachers and writers and mentors ... but it's like greased lightning to get the same bipedal primates to change their behavior in the old direction again, just by showing a few examples in positions of influence, and kind of giving permission.

 

Empathy is not all inclusive or deserved.

 

Let's see man breaks the law declaring a fake emergency to tax the working and middle class then gives the money to the super rich. Then says he needs those illegal taxes to expand government and give those tax breaks. Allowing this is true corruption. The solution is lower government spending and not pass these taxes to pay for breaks for the super rich.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the thread but empathy rises and falls. Empathy according to studies has fallen in the last 50 years. Factors considered are economic insecurity, exposure to more negative news, and technology changes. I doubt that more people being diagnosed on the spectrum contributes, as there were always people on the spectrum but we do have more people on the spectrum and those without empathy controlling more things. Processed foods could contribute IMHO,. Vaccinations are doubtful only really poor studies seem to say that. It is easy to lack empathy on social media, often you are rewarded by it, but my aquaintances that seem the worst on social media often are good people in person.

 

It's a strength (or a weakness) of our species, to be able to switch off our empathy when we choose.

 

Empathy being used as a tool for politics...now that's funny.

 

Maybe it is the frequency of your postings here bemoaning your circumstances.

I cited folks in similar circumstances in a discussion just today.

But as the moderator of another neighborhood forum I get tired of the constant pleading for $$ from people whose pictures show expensive pets, tattoos, hair treatments, nail treatments.

Heck, my haircuts cost $8 though I do pay more. Obviously I should get a quantity discount. But they want me to subsidize their $$$ extravagances.

 

Some people's lack of sympathy / empathy is made up for in being judgmental.

 

I appreciate the abundance of empathy in our society.
But I wish those motivated by self interest would not prosper.

I had heard of this phenomenon recently- casting empathy as a sin. And I really didn't know where to begin with that. My flabber was gasted, you might say. Sometimes I see something that just seems so deeply wrong and backwards that I'm really unsure how to proceed at all, but that linked article does help me understand what's going wrong for those who can no longer tolerate empathy.

They are NOT illegal taxes; they are tariffs that other countries are paying! Just like the wall Mexico paid us to build Don't worry; I have it on good authority that the check is in the mail. Steve Bannon said so, when he received his presidential pardon for the accounting errors in the Build the Wall fund. The current laws before congress is "suppose to lower everyones tax bill". For the ruin; I meant betterment of our country; I mean President......... Sorry senility is kicking in again....

To be honest, I am happy where I rent, and taking care of my orphans with PTSD and parents with cancer. The rental house is fine and the Avalon is fine and my job is fine.

I just feel that every time I mention here I'd like to be able to afford a house I could own around here or afford a certain car or that the cost of everything seems to have outpaced my income I just get blasted on this forum about how I need to do more than I physically can to satisfy my whims as if they were more important than doing what's right. So then I feel impelled to try to explain why things are feeling tough, but only to be blasted even more.

But I see in this thread there is no empathy. It's a dog-eat-dog world. I can see why y'all would suggest to me to throw my parents and kids out on the street and go live up whatever life of pleasures I feel like. Well, that's it. I'll go take my car problems and life elsewhere. The Prius is still dead. I see this forum hasn't helped with fixing that.

To get back on topic, cars are expensive and just keep getting more expensive. I was looking at a 25-year-old Ford yesterday that's going for $5,500. In my youth, adjusting for inflation, I figured it would have been worth about half that or less even.
