New Study Shows Why ‘Taxing the Rich’ Isn’t So Straightforward - FEE
"A common rallying cry on the left is that we can fund our social programs if we just “tax the rich.” While popular, this slogan is far from a real solution for the country. As has been pointed out elsewhere, if you confiscated all the wealth of every billionaire in the US, you wouldn’t even have enough money to run the government for a year. Our fiscal problem is a spending issue, not a revenue issue."

What the Socialist Left Fails to Grasp about Wealth and Innovation in America - FEE
"The wealth of billionaires, millionaires, small business owners, and investors doesn’t sit idly in safes. It’s actively at work throughout the economy: building factories, filling inventories, shipping products, researching and developing new products, and making payrolls."

No one has ever become uber rich without using far lower paid workers to get there. None of them have ever done it from their own hard work as an employee ......

The only thing that I can see that will sort the political mess over there is, stop the ability of anyone buying favours from an elected representative ..... that includes donations to get them elected in the first place. Anyone paying money to an elected official to get the result they want, should be jailed along with the official who took the bribe.

You can't have the best govt when it's the best govt you can buy, it must be the govt that will do the best for all the people, not just those that bought them the position because they will want a return for their investment.

At the moment, if all the big companies paid their workers what they were owed and then shut the doors, would the country be worse off than it is now?

In the past, other countries paid because the US was the only country that still had money to finance anything after the war .... but that isn't the case anymore. Once all of America realises it's broke and simply can't keep paying the big $$ to those who aren't actually producing anything of value, the sooner it can rebuild, but that will take a lot of changes, so many believe they are owed so much because they think they are so special and clever .... yet if they had to go back to the days where you had to make what you had with your hands and not your mouth, they would be the ones living on the street, they couldn't actually make anything that they could sell to pay for the lifestyle they believe they are owed ....

Libertarians just gloss over the government and tax dollar spending that makes that all possible.
And again, the wealthy wouldn't have that money if not for those with less spending theirs on goods and services.

Even liberal socialist from other countries realize what the problem is - it is not the rich

Income Inequality Isn’t The Problem | Hoover Institution Income Inequality Isn’t The Problem
"If the problem we care about is poverty, then the calls to tax the rich and reduce income inequality are misguided. Instead, we should be cheering for policies that lead to higher economic growth."

Socialist have the choice of moving to Venezuela, China, Cuba, California or Russia where all their dreams can come true in these Utopias- Nearly 1 Million Californians Fled the State Last Year — Where Did They Go and Why?

The rich are not the problem:

Welfare Reform and the Intergenerational Transmission of Dependence

"Beyond participation in AFDC/TANF, however, the 1996 welfare reform did not alter the generational economic bonds between mother and daughter. Our findings suggest that welfare reform did not change the transmission of participation in the wider safety net including food and disability assistance, nor did it alter the ties between mothers’ welfare use and daughters’ later life outcomes of 25 human capital or labor market success. These results expand on previous null effects of welfare reform on intragenerational economic outcomes (Blank, 2002; Moffitt, 2003; Ziliak, 2016)."
