I started with a used 2003 and my first segment, 37 MPG! “Is it broke???

The rest of the trip home I did a series of cruse control, different speed segments and found the “knee in the curve.” It also led me to PriusChat when the old ‘GreenHybrid’ fractured.

Even though Honda got out the gate ahead of the prius, boy they (Toyota) sure trounced them ultimately.

The Honda system had a scaling problem with their mechanical CVT. Worse later, I tried to get in their hybrid Civic and hit my head hard enough to ‘see stars.’ “A” for effort, something less for implementation.

Somewhat similar to Toyota, the Ford had promise but my test drive confirmed control law problems.

The original Honda suffered in many ways, but man they sure had the original Prius beat on looks. Toyota now has the Prius looking great. But of course for tall people the continually lowering of the ceiling, helping with drag CD, makes it harder for large people entrance & egress. Life's trade-offs.
We wanted to get the Prius V but the roominess was offset by the lower slung ceiling

I for one liked the looks of the gen 1 Prius.

I miss that car, though it was admittedly less practical than the later hatch.
