Mendel, I've tried ignoring these guys, but it just gets worse.

This is getting old. Building strawman arguments I never said, and convincing our overworked moderator that I am the problem. Maybe you should consider if the game you're playing is really worthwhile.

I'm hoping to find a way to connect 12V to keep it charged.

figuring out how much the 12v is draining, and how big the jump pack battery has to be is a tall order

ChampanF was just stating the facts in post #18. He provided the links to prove what he was saying. I believe he was trying to prove that you did not accept past evidence provided to you.

Now the shoe is on the other foot, as they say.

Just connect the jump pack (or any other battery of your choice) like you described in your original post and continue on with your life.

I am now done bantering with you because this is getting old. I have better things to do tonight. This was fun entertainment for the day.

What motivates you guys to make the mischief you cause? You deliberately mis-state the facts to try to make me look the fool. Is this the type of person you want to be?

Isn't this a circular solution to the problem?

Needs jump pack to start the car because 12v auxiliary battery keeps getting low and won't start the car.

It's not going to be a problem. The jumper pack charges through a USB-C connection. The only job left to do is to replace the battery clips with a male lighter socket plug.
The times when I need a boost are unpredictable. If I happen to be parked in a spot with bad cellular reception, and if it does a large update, it can drain the battery in as little as 2 hours. This little mod will allow me to boost the battery without going under the hood. All I have to do is plug the booster pack into the lighter socket. All it needs to do is raise the voltage to the point where the computer is activated.

If you are willing to ridicule our forum rules, maybe you need a talk with a moderator.

I have completed my car booster setup. I have abandoned my more elaborate plans in favor of simplicity. Last year, I had a second lighter socket wired in, which is always live, but switched and protected by a circuit breaker. I found it useful for charging my cellphone when I was parked, among other things.

I purchased a Dewalt lithium booster which I believe will hold a charge for a long time, and it can be easily recharged through its USB-C port. I had to remove the alligator clips from the booster, and connect the leads to a heavy duty 12V cord and plug. It had a 10 amp fuse in it, but I replaced it with a 40 amp fuse, so that it won't blow before the circuit breaker that protects the live socket. In any case, I'm well protected in case something goes wrong.

At any rate, I don't believe the amount of current required to jump-start a Prius is very much; it only has to activate the computer to put the car into READY mode. This should make it easier for me to deal with an unexpected dead battery, which still happens now and then. Easier, because I won't have to get under the hood to connect alligator clips ( I am nearly disabled by arthritis of the spine). All I have to do is reach under the seat for the booster pack, plug in the socket plug, and it should automatically do the rest. I plan to test it soon.

I am curious. What model number Dewalt lithium booster did you buy?

Most everyone here sympathizes that you are having problems with your vehicle, but band-aid"s" will not fix your car.

Your opinion has been noted and rejected.
I've gone the distance for fixing the problem, and I've explained it many times.

Then sell the car and get that's not "broke". It's maybe two years old, so you should have no problem replacing it.

I'm constantly struck by the mindlessness of opinions like yours. If it's not, "replace the battery," it's "sell the car." I will not be doing either, and I have explained it countless times. Is it a reading comprehension problem with you?

I think everyone has been more than patient with you. You ask for help and opinions, then reject, play victim and attack. I fix shit for a living and I'm very good at it. You've stated your vehicle is broke, but the Dealership/s can't fix it and you don't like the advise you solicit for here. This suggests you should seek help elsewhere. I wish you the best.
