Source: https://www.ttnews.com/articles/m U.S. medium-duty truck sales continued to trend below the prior year by dropping nearly 30% in August, according to data from Wards Intelligence. Classes 4-7 retail truck sales for the month decreased 28.2% to 16,359 units from 22,797 a year earlier. Monthly sales figures have been mostly down year over year since May 2024. The latest sales figures also showed a sequential 4.9% decrease from the 17,204 units reported in July. Source_2: Daily Automotive News DANGER SIGN: U.S. HD TRUCK SALES PLUNGE There’s a lot of uncertainty about the future of the U.S. economy because of tariffs, and here’s a danger sign. Heavy truck sales started dropping in May, a month after President Trump announced the tariffs. Last month, Class 4 through 7 retail trucks fell more than 28%. Industry experts say that’s because there’s been a drop in freight shipments and they blame the tariffs for that. And for the full year, sales are down about 7-8%. These truck sales can be considered a leading indicator of what lies ahead for the economy, and this doesn’t look good. Bob Wilson
Supply & demand. We got our ¾ ton HD just in time as it was maybe 25% below market. Raise the prices people stop buying. They were very overpriced. Soon the vice versa will happen.
Those are delivery sized trucks that move goods to depots or retail. Like watching trains or shipping/port manifests, it is the pulse of a consumer economy. Bob Wilson
This is not just a truck problem this is the entire US economy because we have a braindead convicted felon pretending to be king rather than president and a Supreme Court that is setting the US constitution on fire with their support for him. I mean he literally fired the head of labor statistics for telling the truth about how he's destroying the ecomony. And how about the 475 workers from South Korea who were detained by ICE for helping Hyndai set up a factory in the US in the state of Georgia. Those South Koreans were sent here to train thousands of US workers to run the factory. Meanwhile the idiot in chief is now saying they're welcome to stay if they want because he realized he screwed up and they're like why would we ever trust you again? And given the choice to stay or go home, they all went home. And all those jobs are now gone and the billions Hyundai was going to spend in the US to build cars has now turned into Hyundai breach of contract lawsuits so they can minimize the losses and get out of the financing they lined up. Or how about the billions of dollars other countries spent buying food from our farmers that was already planted last Spring when these unconstitutional tariffs by the president with one signature from his pen made all those farmers bankrupt and no one to sell their food to? So f-ing sick of the level of stupid this is! It seems that when people voted last November too many really dumb people thought they could vote for a reality without consequences and nobody faces tougher consequences in life than people who think they'll always avoid the consequences of their actions.
Medium Class Commercial trucks sales are down. It's the end of Democracy and the World as we know it.
Based on your profile photo and dismissiveness everyone reading what you write knows you already disqualified yourself from participating in reality. So don't worry about anyone caring about what you have to say. Just turn on fox news and try not to live anywhere else but your vitriolic little land of pretend.
I think the word you're looking for is 'deplorable.' Here's another word to consider.... Irony. i·ro·ny1 /ˈīrənē/ noun the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect. "“Don't go overboard with the gratitude,” he rejoined with heavy irony" A thread in a Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel news thread in PRIUS CHAT where the sales figures for commercial gas-powered, not-hybrid trucks are trending downward.....is BAD news.......
Let's be real, priuschat has gone beyond the prius discussion and it really is a place that has a mix of us newer prius owners, and a whole bunch of older baby boomers using it as a social outlet in retirement. Which is fine, it just means that there will be discussions beyond the prius and hybrids, on bigger picture issues, like how commercial truck sales going down in the heavy trucking sector, followed by the medium truck sector, is bad for the economy. It's okay to admit that the forum isn't just number 2 any more. There are many people on here who've known each other for years and are basically forum friends chatting and arguing with their morning and afternoon coffees in hand I myself check when I'm having my coffee at work after emails but before I get to substantive work while I'm still waking up lol
Watching the You Tube videos from truck drivers who are saying they will soon have to walk away from the truck they had poured all their money into buying, but still don't fully own, because there is so little work available that some people are actually quoting for jobs that will barely cover the fuel costs ...... sad times that's for sure. Like Australia, trucks keep Australia moving, without them, nothing gets from point A to point B and from there to where they are needed, like shop shelves, small workshops and even major industries .... no one is willing to risk the money when they have no idea what tomorrows outburst will be ...... sadly, it's not necessarily the govt you voted for, but the govt you ended up with because you didn't bother to vote ...... Here in Canada we have an interesting but different problem. It doesn't seem like Trucking is facing as big of the same challenges here from what I've seen online. We have an issue however where the licensing requirements and trucking schools have been slipping on standards, which has lead to more accidents and rule violations. There is even a protest occurring in Quebec this month by trucks slow rolling through major cities, to try and highlight the need for more strict enforcement of the rules, and audits of trucking schools. As a result of COVID with reduced oversight and enforcement, standards for training, maintenance and trucking in general have been lower and this makes things more dangerous on the road.
Those are all valid points. Yet hateful histrionic / visceral social justice Warrior folk post whatever possible social justice thought - unrelated - need to get their visceral thought across - hoping to take a thread sideways, that's when most here just wait till they go away - like so many others who finally did. Patience. Eventually they move on to fight their social justice warrior war on somebody else's social platform. Unrelatedly Social justice warrior. A Real American Hero (that VERY few people can take seriously) just have to laugh. Now THAT's how you take a thread sideways .
As GenX all my life everyone has acted like the only thing to deal with is baby boomers and GenX is invisble. Nothing seems to change other than Baby Boomers are dying out of old age. Also I disagree that this site is a social outlet for people in retirement. We've lost some of the most helpful people on here because they retired from repairing cars.
