I'm thinking a rear seatbelt could be used to restrain it from forward movement.

I've read that behind the driver seat could be a no-no because of a battery vent? True?

    Pictures would be great!

    Thanks.

I store my donut behind the driver seat and it is restrained between the driver seat backrest and the back seat bench (I drive with the driver's seat all the way back) In my 2020 AWDe Prius the battery vent is near the passenger door.

Is that the same on the Gen5?
(I don't have the car, yet.)

It's pretty nice that room is available.
I never take passengers, and if I did, they'd have to be pretty short in the Gen 5, lol.

In my Gen 4, I keep the donut back in the trunk. (It's AWD so has an electric motor where the donut is stored.) I found a tire cover (US Flag) for it so it's not too ugly back there!

I kept mine behind the drivers seat for a while until I cut the styrofoam out in the storage area for it.
I also bought the pieces for the spare to sit on as per the post about it a long while back.

It didn't really block the battery vent when I had it behind the seat

Until you have a passenger that needs that seatbelt... If it were my car I'd bolt a spare tire mounting bracket to metal and then I'd build a cover for it out of 1/8" or 1/4" plywood box with additional storage compartments in it to ensure no wasted space and then carpet it or paint it black. You really don't want a spare tire not staying in place if you get into a major collision.
