    Hi all,

We are buying a 2014 v five (one of 2013 ones, so no valve fix) that was meticulously maintained at its Toyota dealer for its first 85k miles of life and traded in, and sold to us. We know it's not a great model year, but it's the best we could do under the circumstances (total loss of our only vehicle), and it's in top condition for the year/age/care otherwise...

The dealer has offered us a warranty from CNA that's some variety of $3000 for 3 years/30k miles. We are wondering if this would be a good get out of jail free (okay, prepaid) card for the head gasket/egr valve issue, and if people have good experiences cashing in on this sort of warranty. We have young kids and limited time to DIY car fixing.

Unless you plan to drive 80K miles or more a year, decline the offer and instead put that $3K in a special bank account for car repairs and once you drive off the lot, never return to the Toyota Stealership. The level of theft and dishonesty they engage in gets worse every year.

Next step, find a friend or family member or nearby mechanic to sign up for long term care of the vehicle and follow all of @Mendel Leisk 's advice in the signature of his comments on how to take care of the car to maximize its lifespan. If your family member or friend has basic car repair skill, we can walk them through any repair that's needed in coming years.

If you're on a phone you need to turn it landscape to see the signatures, will be under post. This one for example. :)

don't make a decision until you have read the whole warranty including fine print.

+1^ Yes; who's backing this warranty and what does it cover???????
Look-up the insurance company and rating in your local better business, on-line references, and standing with their insurance ranking.
    Do they pay out????????
That coverage seems steep @ $0.10 a mile coverage and/or $1K a year. I believe Edmund's operation cost is only $0.50/mile all inclusive.

    It's your money to waste.........
