I was thinking $50 but when I was trying to fix it I couldn't outbid others on a totaled Prius that was in the paper for $1,000. Still, the engine in mine burns oil and has galled cylinders needing a new block to fix the oil problem. Wheel bearing is out. Converter pump is dead. Front is still not completely fixed after hit a deer, including smashed windshield. Even a taillight is broken. Interior isn't great. And the HV battery needs replaced. Dash doesn't work, nor does infotainment center. It drains the 12V battery quickly. One time I hooked the jumper cables backwards, so who knows what else I damaged. But I want to get rid of it this week.
You're an adult male from the USA so I don't know what to tell you generally you call salvage buyers like lkq or others Mike on Facebook marketplace and they'll tell you over the phone just by the year make and model of car what they'll pay for it as scrap and then they come pick it up . Pretty simple .
Yeah, I'll probably have to do that. I just don't like the idea of having to pay for having it towed a couple hundred miles or so.
a couple charities around here advertise free towing for cars in any condition. idk how they turn them into money, tax deduction maybe? try salvation army
You don't tow it anywhere you called the companies that pick up salvage you call a couple of them tell them what you have they'll tell you what they'll give you for it and they'll come and pick it up you don't tow it to them .
you might probably get $100-$300 if you call salvage yards to pick it up for you. They pay top dollar if there are still tires on it. I could easily make $20 from ordinary scraps (old parts) at my local metal recycler facility.
From what I hear, the metals in the catalytic converter are worth around $1000, so that's probably the base value of the car.
Can't you part it out? As mentioned above the cat could be sold to some third-world person who has to use OEM parts to replace a cat-napped converter. If it costs $200 to ship it to said third world location and the cat is worth $300 then you just made a quick $100 - $300 being about the price of a decent non-OEM cat. Wheels: Same. Get some bartenders' friend and clean them up! The market is a little more limited since I'm sure that Toyota (being Toyota!!) changed things like the tire size, bolt pattern and hub bore from the G2 through the G5 - but I invite internet sleuths to weigh in if I owe Yota an apology! My point is that they're probably not all bent. In fact?? NONE of them might be bent, and you live in a state where it might actually SNOW from time to time. Sell them to some retired hippie that needs 4 'steelies' to put their winter tires on! The Malfunction display (if it works)....same. Inverter....same. Power-split unit... a.k.a. transaxle....DEFINATELY the same. I get it. Your Time is worth something too..... If nothing else you might put the whole car up for sale (or free) in the proper section of this forum. If I were a little closer to Colorado I'd throw it on a trailer and part it out myself - and take you to dinner. It's hard to believe that in the year of our Lord 2025, you would have to PAY to dispose of an entire 2006 car even if it's not functional. My daily driver is a 2006. When it becomes unreliable I will give it to a relative for them to either drive or part out themselves. Good Luck!
I've never heard of a scrap yard that will come clear out here to get a car. There are a couple that are 3 hours away. Most are over 4. So between coming to get it and taking it back, that's 300 or 400 miles over mountain passes and potentially paying the driver overtime assuming they work 5 8-hour-days. Everyone I've talked to says they've had to tow their car at least part way.
Well sir you must be in very isolated case most people live where things are now. I know there are some of us out there that are working very hard to be off grid and live where no one else is if you are one of these people then that may be a fact if you are 3 hours from salvage operations etc . Than yes you've buried you're self out of that . For sure . Even the extremists I know up in the mountains of North Carolina are an hour away or less from salvage operations and people that will generally come and collect stoves refrigerators cars steel building remains etc. so out west and adding more hours . I guess we'll not
