:( Now this reminds me that there are 4 dead racoons along the highway just a couple miles from here.

Cars need safety devices for animals too.

When will we just start tapping our shoulder with our palm and say "beam me up Scotty?"

Use a transporter that was built by the lowest bidder?!?!

    Hard Pass for me, personally.
Not unless they send a bunch of cats through it first!!

We use an artificially intelligent control unit that's strapped in between the seat and the steering wheel.
The logic goes something like this:
Hit a critter that damages your vehicle and you get three days off without pay and a 3-year black mark in your copy book.
Do it more than once and you might be cleaning restrooms in a Buc'ees at $20 an hour......

Animals are something of a problem with telephone mechanics.
Fortunately, in my truck I can just center them up and they pass beneath the vehicle.
For deer and coyote sized critters I use NASCAR rules......
Aim for them and they're usually gone by the time you get where they were.
I'm unapologetically NOT concerned with coyotes or feral piggies - other than I do not wish them to damage my vehicle!
Back when my company had their dalliance with Priuses I had to adjust my strategery a little bit since even hitting a 'possum on a half-shell (armadillo) can result in a trip to the repair shoppe for them - but fortunately there's only one left in my turf - a calico coloured 2010 G3 that belongs to our engineering group.
They don't get out much - it only has about 60,000 miles on it, and it will probably be sold off soon to some hapless new owner.

I'm closing in on 26 accident/incident years and so far it's my fellow humans that threaten me on the highways and byways - NOT the critters I encounter.......

no shortage of raccoons or deer around here, no matter how many we take out.

That's probably because there IS a shortage of hunters - at least for the deer.
You're in the wrong part of the country for racoon hunting - and unless you're REALLY wanting to dress up like Danil Boone for the next Halloween party I personally don't know why somebody would spend time hunting FOR a racoon!!
Any animal that can survive being shot by a medium calibre rifle, a fall from a 40' tree and still have enough fight in them to go fangs out against a hunting dog - or THREE - cannot POSSIBLY be good eats!!!

I trap them in my neighborhood and relocate them when I can.

I will actually maneuver to avoid them in my Jeeplet because I never know if they might hurt something underneath the car - but in my truck I don't have to bother.
I can usually just center them up and pass well over.

    If not?
Well, an easy meal for opportunistic omnivores (like the foxes in the neighborhood.)

In my state I believe releasing trapped animals is illegal. You have to kill them. Although I'm pretty sure I saw a guy drop off a woodchuck in front of my house and sped off, lol.

There's a big controversy over the subject, but the state voted to release wolves back into Colorado. I read an article saying how in other places that they've also released wolves the deer population doesn't necessarily go down, but deer do become more alert and fearful of noises, which reduces accidents with deer drastically as they start avoiding highways.

Just read about a pack of wolves that swam out to an island. They did take out most of the deer there. So they switched to sea otters, and now the pack is suffering from mercury poisoning.

Wow, a white water truck ..... any photos of it doing any white water activities? Watching them in those pointy nose boats that they are tied into and roll over half way down, but still end up right way up when the reappear in the calmer water .... very impressive ..... but doing that a truck .... now that would take some skill ...... ;) :) So, photos or even better a video

... not until there is enough snowpack to ski on without collecting a lot of rock gouges on our skis.
