Got an email yesterday from Toyota Connected Services that included:

"The new Toyota app replaces your old apps. This app allows you to access a suite of safety and convenience features right in the palm of your hand. From managing your account to accessing important vehicle info and features, they can all be done conveniently in one place."

Has anyone tried this new app yet and is it worth using ?

I wanted to see if anyone tried it yet before I considered downloading it.

Also would this app still have some use even if you do not have an active subscription to Toyota Connected Services ?

Thanks in advance for any responses !

Sounds like a scammer to me... If it was a legit new Toyota app or upgrade they would notify you within your existing app, not via email.

Thanks for the caution, I am very careful not to click on links in emails except in rare instances where I am very sure of the source, but I think this is legit, I have not used the app on my phone in a while but just now opened it up and it did say there is an upgrade available.

I hoping to see if anyone else tried it yet first.

From their respective Android/Apple stores, the latest update to the Android app was Sept. 23, 2025, and to the Apple app September 4, 2025. I recall my Android app updating and didn't notice anything new.

I'm using version 2.8.2 , app downloaded from the Google Play Store.

It seems to work pretty well.

My ios Toyota app automatically updated about a month ago. If you don't pay for subscriptions about all you get is maintenance history.

Yeah... As long as you deal with new version offerings within the app and nowhere else, you'll be safe. Of course sometimes they barely let you know, the app will just look a tiny bit different. :)

Thanks for all the replies, and yep, I'll update it only from within the app itself as mine must not be set to automatically update. (and hey, even if I just get maintenance history, that is better than nothing)

I checked and after our initial free subscription to Toyota Connected Services ran out they wanted a minimum of $15 a month to continue the subscription, that by itself might not seem like a lot but when you're on Social Security all those various monthly fees start to add up and my wife was not keen on paying them $15 a month for something we might normally make little use of, now if they ever offer a discounted rate like $99 for a year that might be more worth possibly considering.

Hey, we had 2 yard lights and the electric company's rate went up to $15 a month just to keep 2 yard lights on, so we had them remove the lights and take it off our monthly bill and bought 2 good solar powered yard lights on sale that paid for themselves in just over a year from the $15 a month we saved on our electric bill so now we get free light AND we still have yard lights when there is a power outage !

Yeah, they always be like it's only $15 a month and I'm like why would I want to pay $180 a year for something I'm not using very much. :)

Yep, that's the point, if you're not going to make a lot of use out of it why pay for it at that price, maybe if enough people refuse to pay that price "maybe" they might lower it.:)

We did not mind the free trial of siriusxm when we first got our car and even tried their highly discounted price they offer when you first say no to renewing but we even stopped that and would just use the antenna if we wanted any radio.

Unexpectedly recently after our last routine maintenance visit to the dealership we later got an email offering us a free sirusxm trial with no strings attached, it did not require any credit card info and said it will not automatically renew that we would have to renew on our own, which we don't plan to renew but it nice to get a free trial without having to worry about canceling and we'll go back to antenna mode afterwards.

I am wondering if the dealership initiated that free trial though they never mentioned it to us.

But we do try to watch and avoid unneeded monthly subscriptions in general as they can add up.

Yep my wife's 2024 Corolla Hybrid came with a free trial of the Toyota App. First of all, it was NOT easy to get it working. After I did, the only real benefit I ever saw was once when I went to the store it texted me and said I didn't lock the doors and would I like to lock them? Sure! It, also, has the option to pre-start the car. (But she's parked in a garage so not really used.)
It would show PSI for all the tires....but I assume that no longer works since I didn't pony up for a subscription fee.
Sad having to pay almost $30K for a Corolla and they still expect you to pay for subscriptions.

I like being able to use the app to remote start the car and climate control. I might might even pay, say, $8/month to do that. But not $15/month. Yeah, you get Toyota's navigation map or music service too for $15, but I already have music and maps through Android Auto.

Agreed, we paid 30K for a 2020 new Prius Prime, maybe at that level they should at least give you 10 years of free access.

We live in a climate that tends to stay on the milder side so not concerned about remote start, as far as maps our large screen display on our Prius Prime allows us to use maps and even give us audio directions when to turn when going new places and that is without having an active subscription.

It would be nice to be able to access the charge level from inside the house while it is charging outside, but not enough to pay $15 a month for.

They are making you pay for the car's cell service when you pay for features like remote start, emergency response and notifications.

Home medical devices and alarm systems now come with cell service hardware as well.
