Toyota dealers are the best places to get OEM tires because they include a free-replacement road-hazard warranty. You get a brand-new tire even if there is a repairable puncture. So, it is fine as long as you don’t bother with tire stores or online tire retailers.
You can get the same perks from Costco & Discount Tire as well. Difference being you don't have to pay the overpriced stealership fees that enable the center to send their kids through an ivy league university. we'll stick w/ Costco & Discount Tire - but thanks for the suggestion tho
Adding to the list I would like: -better resolution cameras -power adjusting front passenger. Seems like an odd omittion, especially for the the top trims.
If you are referencing my concern it was not that no one other than Toyota dealers carry the 19". My concern was that there are only three (I think) tire options in the 19" (the OEM Toyo and Michelin, and a snow tire Michelin-Ice). It is an odd tire size, that is the problem.
Nevertheless, I still think that the Toyota dealers is a better deal for your buck than discount online or brick-and-mortar stores. Mounting, balancing, disposal, and environmental fees are completely included in the price, and the road-hazard warranty is a replacement with a brand-new tire rather than puncture repair. Far be it from me to tell Toyota how to market cars, but some products are marketed in a way other than as it comes on the showroom floor. Harley Davidson has a catalogue of engine modifications to make your bike louder and faster because that's how customers want it. Seems as if Toyota could offer a Normal Human Option that would include 17" wheels and a spare with a jack.
The 17" wheel is already offered on the base trims, and you get the aero wheel covers with them as an added bonus. If you want a higher trim, chances are over 90% that you want the better-looking 19" wheel as well. Spare tires are disappearing from most cars, not just Toyotas.
It wasn't so in my case; I specifically avoided higher trims that were more common when I was looking because I didn't want a larger screen and wheels. The complaints about the 19" wheel size, tire size, durability, efficiency and selection aren't hard to find. Yes. An option would remedy that problem.
Regarding spare tires disappearing, whether this is an issue depends, I think, in large part on where you drive. If you are mostly in cities, urban/suburban areas, and also more local, it is probably ok. On the other hand, if you drive in rural isolated areas, and add to that where weather is not mild, I have some concerns.
I wish there could be an app that makes better use of the system and the sensors. It could show the RPMs of the various components in the drivetrain. It could also show the distance to the vehicle ahead, instead of just a symbol. But it likely won't happen; Toyota would sue them into the stone age.
Actually there are apps that help with that... Get a OBD2 bluetooth reader and there's all kinds of apps that help you fine tune the data coming from your Prius. For example, every time I'm on a road trip in my Gen2 and I'm heading into the mountains I open up Car Scanner (ELM) app to use the tachometer screen to ensure most efficient engine speed at 3500rpm because how fast you should go when climbing up a steep grade is not easy to discern without that data...
3,500 rpm sounds too high for efficiency. There are at least two efficiency factors, one being thermal efficiency and the other being aerodynamic efficiency. The slower you go is obviously the better for the latter.
