I would like to replace my infotainment system with an apple carplay/Android Auto. Does anyone have one installed? I have a 2012 V. Thanks
I have not replaced the existing mfd as it includes some hybrid data, xm radio, hd fm etc. What I am considering is a low cost add on screen mounted in the blank area in front of the steering wheel for a simpler install, with wireless Carplay and built in camera recording as a bonus. Ottoscreen 10" Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Portable Car Screen
Will that get in the way of seeing the road, mounted where you're suggesting (I have no idea of what your dash looks like). Even so, it's not a huge gamble.
Plenty of room on a Prius v without disrupting any forward view. Of course you are unlikely to buy a 13 year old v. The fact of the matter is a much smaller mfd replacement loses functionality and does require looking down and away from the road to operate.
I replaced my mfd in my 2015 v with an android unit and I highly recommend it. Took a few hours, but everything works great including the steering wheel controls and original back up camera. It fixed a lot that the car was missing.
That looks like a nice unit. Got any photos of the install? Anything that can help us install a unit like that? Thanks
Here's the photos I took. It wasn't very difficult, but it took several hours and I did need to contact the vendor for tech help cause some controls were not working. Turned out to be my fault because I did not plug everything in. There are a lot of cables and the different radios and model years have different harnesses.(All included with my kit) There are lots of instructions online, but I followed the instructions that came with the unit, and it worked. You do have to remove a lot of the dash trim panels. This is the back of the original head unit. Lots of cables The included screen frame had extra tabs on it that needed to be cut off. so a little fitting is required. The color and texture of the included frame does not match the original plastic very well, but I stopped caring about it. The only thing that bothers me is that the frame is not a perfect fit for my car. Maybe I could have bought a higher quality frame. No one has ever noticed, but this small gap bothers me and I can feel it with my finger. Also You lose CD and satellite radio functionality. There may be a way to get the antenna cable plugged in and somehow get it to work, but I play spotify, audible. and anything else straight from my phone using android auto controls, so I don't miss sat at all. The only thing I wish was there was a physical volume knob. Other than that, this is a huge upgrade.
