Just curious, and I know it's not necessary, but does anyone use a Techstream to activate the oil pump to prime the system after an oil change? I was thinking, I believe it's an electric pump, you could turn it on to fill the oil filter housing before you drive it. Kind of like filling your oil canister before spinning it on.
Okay, that makes sense then. I'm just an idiot. I thought I saw somewhere the 4th gen had an electric pump. Honestly, I'm glad it doesn't. Thanks for your quick reply!
Fuel & coolant pumps are electric, and thus controllable by Techstream for diagnostics, but the oil pump is still mechanical for reliability's sake. Welcome aboard!
Yea it's fine not to fill a new oil filter with oil before installing it. In older big diesel engines, you do want to fill up the filters because they are so big, the lack of oil pressure while they are filling isn't good. The filters in diesels are much bigger than gasoline engines. You do want to lube up around the filter with oil before inserting it and, also, check to ensure the old filter's rubber seal isn't stuck up on the engine. (I've never seen Toyota filters do this but I did have a Fram filter do this, years ago, in my Chevrolet Z-24.)
There is no steering pump. The steering assist is electric, but they don't use the electricity to pump fluid- they just use it to move the mechanism directly.
If you want to fire up the engine after an oil change; put the car in ready mode then hit the front windscreen defrost button. That will force the engine-on; You won't have to deal with the witch-doctor dance to get the car into maintenance mode. Hope this helps.....
For sure, if your dealer works incredibly cheap, or if you hideously overspend on the subscription or device.
