certainly, hi tech has given many entrepreneurs have made billions, and ceo pay has gone crazy.
wall street is richer than ever, and american workers keep adding fuel by weekly paycheck investments into all sorts of funds.
add internet earnings and other things, and it's probably a recipe for disaster

New mirror and mirror cover ordered from Toyotatown Parts Direct (London, ON) would have come to $385 CAD including tax and shipping.

Driving 800mi to Surrey, BC costs about $80 CAD(assuming 50mi/gal and $1.20/L fuel price in the Calgary area and $1.50/L to refuel in Surrey). Google says the sales tax rate in Surrey is 12%, so the $240 used part comes to almost $270 with tax. Together with the fuel cost, that puts a total cost of around $350 CAD and 10 hours of driving time.
(I'm assuming the 800mi is round trip and Paul lives somewhere on the east slope of the Rockies)

Now if the trip also included non-car related stuff, then that $80 worth of gas becomes shared with the other activities. But if those other activities resulted in a night or more in a hotel, then that's even more added costs unless he was able to stay with friends/family in the greater Vancouver area.


For comparison's sake, the same order would have cost someone in the US about $230USD($315CAD) if they waited until Black Friday, or $300USD/$420CAD if they just couldn't wait for the sale and had to order immediately.
