Originally set out just to get a replacement 4D69 transponder since I stupidly threw mine away a few years ago when I replaced the shell of one of my working smart keys. Almost left us stranded the other day when the battery in the fob died rather suddenly and the key would not work in the slot. Finally realized my mistake.

Trying to acquire a transponder locally in the US was going to be about $13 shipped but an all new fob compatible with silver key logo was only $28 on ebay.

Transponder registration with the immobilizer went through fine and the new key works in the slots proving it has transponder 4D69.

However, the SKS step keeps failing. Tried chicken dance and Techstream. In each case, when I'm at the last step of adding the new key itself, pressing the lock/unlock and then lock results in 4 door lock cycles indicating the ECU rejected the key. The fact that it did so proves that the buttons and transmitter in the aftermarket fob work but the ECU didn't like it. A successful pairing is met with 2 cycles of the door locks.

Anyone ever had this fail with a legitimate key? Techstream says I have 2 slots remaining to add keys. I'm assuming they either this key is just not compatible or that it was previously paired. Since it has 4D69, that proves it was at least intended for SKS since 4D67 is for non smart key systems.
