I have noticed recently that there is a long beep when opening up the rear hatch. It doesn't happen all the time. When opening the hatch, I typically get a beep, beep-beep. Sometimes, I get a beep, beeeeeeeeeeeep. I can't replicate it but it typically happens when I am getting out of the drivers seat and press the hatch button on the dashboard. Has anyone experiences this? What does that extra-long beep mean?
Are these beeps coming from inside or outside the car? edit: I just perused the manual. Do you have a power 'back door'? Could have something to do with that. If so, you'll have to read the manual, I can't figure it out, and I'm not getting the power option so there's no need.
Its complicated ! If you have power back door it gets even more complicated. I suggest you get your owners manual out, or a pdf copy of it, and figure out your particular situation.
oops. Do you have a gen 5 prius or a 2020 prius implied by your signature/profile. If 2020 prius, try posting to the 2020 prius group. Good luck.
I reviewed the owners manual but I didn't find anything related to the back door beeps. Here is what is happening. - Sometimes when I press button #1 (back door opener switch) it beeps once, it opens, and once the door stops opening, it then beeps twice beep-beep (this is how I always remembered it since I bought the car) - Sometimes when I press button #1 (back door opener switch) it beeps once, it opens, and once the door stops opening, it then beeps once but much longer. beeeeeeeeeeep (This annoying long beep is recent but now happens more often) I have both scenarios caught on video. beep https://photos.app.goo.gl/8dWB28s3TJzsiY9BA beeeeeeeeep https://photos.app.goo.gl/apKRMPCMY6613YqN6
If it's beeping at all after opening, that means it's trying to tell you something's wrong. I think the long beep means it thinks one or both of the power struts is going out. Hopefully it's just a configuration error, but I'm a little concerned something was wrong long enough that it's now damaged one of the struts. If so, get it to the dealership before your warranty runs out because those things are EXPENSIVE. One option you can try is to clear out everything by disconnecting the 12V battery for several minutes. You'll have to manually push down the hatch the first time after reconnecting the battery, but it should operate normally after that. FYI, I've also got a power liftgate and mine has never made any noise after opening.
Yes, I'd say that's miscalibration - it's beeping because it's stopping because it thinks something's in the way. It's just two variations on a "blocked" complaint. You could check that it beeps similarly if you block it while opening. And you could try setting a lower opening height to confirm that it doesn't beep it if it is set to stop earlier. Opening height can be set from menus in the car, or just hold the open/close button on the bottom inside of the door for 2 seconds while it's in the open position you want - it'll beep 4 times to confirm. That would all confirm that it's lost track of what its maximum opening height should be. And leaving it set to a lower open position would hide the problem, but it would come back if you reselected "fully open" in the menu (or by holding the button for 7 seconds). As Hammersmith suggested, 12V disconnection should make it recalibrate its fully open position.
