I have a 2024 Limited with JBL. I cancelled SiriusXM since I had it in another car and my phone. I use wireless Android Auto to get SXM in my Prius. Most of the time I start up the car, it connects to AA on my phone, and SXM plays automatically. Sometimes my Prius fails to connect to AA on my phone no matter how long I wait. To get it to work I have to go into settings and manually connect Bluetooth which shows disconnected. Once I click the Connect button, it connects, AA starts and SXM plays. Any idea why this happens and what I can do to fix it?

I have no idea what I'm talking about...
    But...is AA connected wirelessly?
I THINK I've read that WiFi gets involved with that.
    Maybe a WiFi conflict?

I don't use wireless Apple CarPlay currently but I remember this happening with the iPhone too. Is your phone awake and unlocked when you start the car? Is your Toyota app open and are you logged in? I have vague memories of one of these circumstances being required for the iPhone to reliably wirelessly connect to the car when it was powered on.

I have never done anything special to my phone. I have it in my holster turned on, get in car and take off. Never have opened the app before taking off. I will try some things that you suggest and see if it gets more reliable. Velvetfoot suggested it might be a wi-fi conflict of some sort but I would not know how to fix that. Wi-fi on my phone just works. I am the IT manager for my company so am familiar with wi-fi.

There seems to be a window at startup where the head unit looks for a phone. If it fails for whatever reason, it doesn't try to reconnect. At least that's been my experience. The three ways I've found to deal with it is to connect manually like you've done(takes the longest), plug the phone in using a USB-C cable(I usually do this since I typically stream video), or rebooting the head unit by pressing and holding the power/volume button for about 5 sec until it reboots.

I had this happen a handful of times. Especially when I remotely start the car and my phone isn't in the car. 95% of the other times AA connects and starts up and plays my last music source.
