Is there any consensus as to whether it is worth using the OEM OEM 53875-47030? TL/DR: OEM is at least twice they cost: chatgpt found an OEM at $72. If you have experience replacing this part, please advise if you bought OEM and if you did its yourself + any lessons learned. Thank you. Ref: ChatGPT - Toyota Prius part number
I use the softer aftermarket units tend to not crack like the hi styrene factory . Make sure to get the meatal dog bone inserts for front lil air dams
Thanks for the reply: Please clarify with a photo or a link to purchase the metal dog bone inserts? Is there a purchase link with a description photo? There seems to be a lot of variations in the aftermarket products. If you are happy with yours, can you provide me with a link or supplier / part number?
I replaced the front left fender liner in August 2024 with a generic one bought on Amazon for $28. It took a while to install correctly, but it has worked fine.
I was shopping Amazon and notice many options. Would you mind providing the link to the one you purchased and any other accessories? Thank you
I found pulling those liners out (for cleaning behind), there's one fastener at the back, in the middle, that apparently impossible to remove without destroying. Fuzzy on the details, but you'll find it. Also, there's metal bar with square head "bolts", clamping the arched wheel well portion's leading end to the flat bottom panel at the front. After a year or two those bolts become solid rust lumps, don't bother attempting to disassemble that joint.
I bought parts for the front left on Amazon. Linked below are the two parts I purchased. I initially bought some cheap ones from Ebay and then noticed they did not match the OEM design. I tossed those and eventually found CAPA certified replacements from carparts.com. This is what I put in just yesterday. These are made in Taiwan and closely match the original parts. I bought stainless bolts and cap nuts to re-install the little aero dam on the bottom of the liner. I also bought OEM push nuts and new screws. I found that using the original rusted screws doesn't work because the friction is too high and the plastic nuts will turn in circles instead of tightening down. There is a balance required for that system to work and it does best with fresh parts.
Thanks for the links! I am trying to figure out what the "Wheel Opening Pad" is for and if I need to buy one. What is said item and what is its purpose?
The "Wheel Opening Pad" part is located on the bottom in front of the wheel well. It sticks down and I believe it bridges between the fender liner and the plastic undercarriage piece. I took a picture of the left front of my 2011 Prius to show you the location. Just compare the left and right sides of your car to determine what parts are missing from your right side.
