Hello, I have three problems, and they all seem related to each other. 1. When I press the buttons on the steering wheel, the wrong ones light up on the screen. For example, if I press the volume up (+) button, the trip button lights up. 2. The City EV and Eco Mode buttons on the center console don't work. 3. The battery status on the upper display (under the windshield) constantly shows one bar, even when fully charged. The hybrid works properly, consumes low fuel, and is a pleasant drive, even on electric power. Has anyone had this problem and can help me?
i haven't seen this before. are there any trouble lights on? the steering issue might be the clock spring, but idk if it would affect the other two issues. sometimes, rodents chew on wires, and sometimes, ecu pins corrode inside the connectors. both would be very intense trouble shooting using the wiring schematic available at toyota technical services website. i would post this again in the gen 3 forum, no one watches this forum anymore.
Thanks for reply. There are no errors/icons on the display. Unfortunately, I can't log into Toyota without an account to download the technical specifications for the cables. In the hidden menu, I see that there were errors from the past in the memory. I'm attaching preview photos. A mechanic friend also checked on his computer, and the error history shows the errors, which I've included in the attachment. There are no current errors. I don't know what to do about it...
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question. The display under the windshield shows the current battery level and nothing changes, even when I charge it to 100%. However, the display on the center console shows the correct battery level.
sorry, none whatsoever. i would again suggest reposting in the gen 3 forum, where more people are reading. plug in prius is not popular here anymore.
In my mind, these seem very much like an gen2 clockspring issue, but why the battery would only show limited bars seem oh unrelated. Please validate and check the actual battery data via a capable scanner, ie autel/vlink or similar (techstream oh so ideal).
Thanks for reply. The thing is, the battery status is only frozen on the top display (hybrid system indicator), while the one on the center console displays the battery level correctly. Perhaps, as you say, the problem is with the clockspring, but I don't think this idea fits with the city and eco mode buttons not working.
Can anyone verify from the attached photos whether my display is from the 2012 plug-in version? I suspect the current display is from the non-plug-in version. Please confirm. I have an appointment with a mechanic soon and I don't want to pay him to disassemble the dashboard. If someone on the forum could confirm this, I'd prefer to take the new display to a mechanic and have him install it if that's the problem.
yeah, i think you should have hv/ev miles as a right screen option, and the battery icon should show ev miles until wall charge is almost gone, then switch to hv like the non plug in.
If I'm not mistaken, the arrangement of the steering wheel buttons was changed (in the US, anyway?) between 2010–11 and 2012–15. The way they were laid out the first way (2010–11) looked like this: If you compare the button layout on your steering wheel to the layout in your photo of the display, does the steering wheel layout match your display layout?
I've attached a photo of my steering wheel and a link to my video showing the problem: https://youtube.com/shorts/dFNf-I0oxnM?si=9x1_T-1Bw7iJvvPn
