Curious way you say "not applicable to the context" there. Given that 'semantics' is the meaning of what's said, and context is part of that, anyone who disregarded context would not be "getting into semantics"—or would be doing a poor job of it. The usual situations that call for "getting into semantics"—or, redirecting attention back to the meaning of what was said—crop up when someone else has said something that "conveniently distracts".
