There is a little play in the centre of the steering before it kicks in, but I do think that it's probably related to nudging the wheel to let the car know you are, in fact, using it when you activate the ADAS system.

In my 24 plug in, with the capacitive wheel, in normal mode the "play" in the centre of the steering before it actually steers, is fairly minimal. maybe 1/8'th inch of turn when in normal mode before it actually turns the wheels? I think sport mode just makes the rest of the steering angle a bit tighter with the non-linear steering response, earlier in the curve.

But you are right, it is nice that - for what is all intents and purposes an econo-car, that it does avoid understeer when you accelerate mid turn. It's nice when the highway has a bit of a bend to the on or off ramp, to not have to slow down to a crawl to avoid body-roll and feeling like the car is gonna slip or pull away from your intended turn.
