I'd be using trial and error, instead of trying to decipher manuals. I've had to adust headlights before, to my own preferences.
I couldn't make heads or tails about the markings on the plastic near the screw hole. I trusted the manual, lol. It's been right so far on other stuff. I have A and B up to 10 notches now. I think it went up some, but it was miserable outside so I didn't use the garage door as a backdrop. Nobody's flashing me, yet. May drive after dark tonight. I hate driving the new car with salt on the road, but what 'ya gonna do? I'm definitely keep track of the notches though, in case I have to restore it. There is the issue of taking up slack in the adjustment, but maybe it's not that of a factor when restoring settings.
I had adjusted the GE H6054HO sealed beams on my 1985 Corolla LE with a horizontally flat cutoff (maximum allowed according to the bulb instructions from GE), and people did flash me at times.
I think the mention of two adjustment screws per headlight in the manual is supported by the labeling on the headlights themselves. If you look back at a previous post of mine on this thread (#56), you’ll see the attached pictures show a sticker that explains there are two vertical adjustment screws that need to be adjusted the same amount. This would seem to corroborate the explanation in the manual. Ironically, however, the technical manual that Hammersmith provided (post #43) only mentions one aiming screw… Toyota certainly could have done a better job on the documentation for this one
My '26 doesn't have that sticker. Similar markings on the plastic though. Also, it should be noted that @Hammersmith 's reference goes out of its way to note that the rotation of the screwdriver might not match with the rotation of the adjustment wheel, and that both sides have to be turned in the same direction, ie, clockwise or counterclockwise. I'm thinking the right side compared to the left side. Using @mva 's 8mm socket is more obvious in this regard, has positive engagement, and notch visibility.
