Some mistakenly think the Chinese work like slaves. But this video show they master modern machinery and manufacturing as well as anyone else. Hubris is to think another people are incapable of doing what you think you can do.

So did the Chinese workers in Brazil seek asylum and freedom from their ‘slavery’?

According to the article, they all went back to China. This isn't the first time, nor will it be the last time something like this happens. I blame this on social media - uppity slave wanting rights.:rolleyes::( It was actually indentured servitude. No difference than farm workers being bused up from Mexico for the harvest or promises made to them for building our rail roads - but we didn't have work rules back then.
The loose affiliation of farm workers just got port-o-potties, shade, and water breaks within the last 5 years.
It was more than likely that local Brazilians blew the whistle on that manufacturing plant; because they know local labor laws. Those being trafficked didn't, nor do they speak Portuguese or Spanish. The few times I was in Brazil, didn't have any issues communicating in my Spanglish or English. My impressions is that there's a large gap between rich and poor - very few middle class and very spotty education system - which contributes to the large gap.
People tend to bend the news to serve their own purposes; so you need to ask yourself, 'how plausible was that?'. The truth usually lies somewhere in-between the two extremes. You know your being trafficked, when they take and don't return your passport.
Yes, whenever there are cameras around; they unchain the slaves from their machines and hustle them into the back room.
There are steeper work rules in China than here. Depending on the province your working in, most employers are required to supplement medical, dental and sometimes housing allowances. I'm not saying illegal working conditions doesn't happen over there; just like 'working under the table' doesn't happen over here.

    YMMV
