Window belt weatherstrip

    I've seen more than a few posts about replacing the window belt weatherstrip. The Toyota replacement parts are ~$40.00 each + shipping. Mine are worn out, and I'd like to replace them.
    Has anyone found a brand or seller that they think are good or have provided good service. There are lots of sets for all four door that are within $10.00 +/- to the cost for one Toyota weatherstrip.
    I'd appreciate any advice, thanks

    I did my 07 Prius a year ago... Very easy job... I got it from a wrecking yard for $15 and there were multiple vehicles to choose from so I got to pick the best one.

    Gosh I can hardly believe the lack of responses. I think anything in a salvage yard would be as bad as mine, plus I can't see removing four of them and not damaging at least two; they don't come out without a fair amount of force. I live in Arizona, they were so sun worn that my fingers would end up with black sludge of them if rested on the window ledge with the window down. I did buy a set (online) through X auto tree; the front ones were 1/4" too long and I returned them. Then I bought a set of A Premium, They were pretty close to the original ones and seemed made fairly well. Only time will tell how they hold up.

    Funny I see this, I was going to look up the same thing this week. The weatherstrip on my drivers side door just this last weekend split apart, but yeah I sure woudln't go salvage. Do you have a link to the ones you got? Any tips on replacement?

    If you can inspect and choose the best one at a wrecker you won't be disappointed and you'll save lots of money.
    Not just that, but buying brand new parts for a 16 year old car means the lifespan of that part is not congruent with the lifespan of the vehicle.

    Bought a set on Amazon for $40 that had good reviews. I also had to use a fair amount of force to get them out, there is probably a trick to it or using a proper tool but I ended up just flat out destroying them.

    All of mine spontaneously disintegrated into gummy messes. That's the only repair the car has required in the ~122k miles I've had it;

    The ones I ended up using were: A Premium,


    They were $60.99 with AZ tax. I'm sure the Toyota ones are good/better but the average cost of the four of them was ~$48.00 plus shipping.
    There was a set I ordered on e bay and sent back because they were ~1/4" long. They were $32.00
    There are lots of videos on you tube showing replacement. Getting them out without destroying them is close to impossible. The A-Premium ones were identical in clipping devices as the original, and installing them was easy. My old ones were disintegrated, when you put you hand on the top of the door, with the window down, your finger tips ended up black and gooey, then you touch some part of the door panel or handle and leave a black (permanent?) smudge.

    The part numbers are: 75710-47021, 75720-47021, 75730-47021, 75740-47021
    I purchased my non-OEM set from eBay for $34. It seems to work, but time will tell how long it will last.
    I do not recommend getting these from a salvage yard, since I think it would take too much effort (i.e., you would probably have to take apart the entire door) to remove these intact.

    Removal - The hardest part of installation is removing the old weatherstrips. Some tips that might help others:
    • use plastic/nylon trim pry tools (i.e., don't use a screwdriver)
    • use painter's tape (maybe even double up) or maybe some thin foam material so that you don't mar your paint when prying out the weatherstrips
    • you'll need to dig the pry tools underneath the weatherstrip and then lever it up.
    • on the painter's tape (and using the new weatherstrip as a guide), use a Sharpie to mark out where the lock tabs are. then you'll know where you need to start prying
    • pry out these lock tabs first. then pry out the long lip that runs the entire length of the weatherstrip. don't worry if you rip the outside of the weatherstrip from the inside of the weatherstrip. once you've pried enough out, lower the window to help you pry out the long lip (since the negative space from the missing window will allow the lip to push out from the door).
    • if you've completely ripped the outside half of the weatherstrip from the inside half of the weatherstrip, very carefully lower the window while holding the inside weatherstrip. otherwise, the entire inside half will just fall into the door and you'll never get it out unless you disassemble the entire door panel (ask me how I know :( ).
    Installation:
    • after removing the old weatherstrip, clean up all the gunk and dirt from the window and door sill
    • completely lowering the window may help with installation
    • line up the new weatherstrip on the door. while the entire weatherstrip is sitting in its final position, push the lock tabs on each end into its slot. then push down on the entire weatherstrip so that it sits as far down as possible. very slowly raise the window, while making sure that the window doesn't drag the weatherstrip up from its seat. then systematically move along the entire weatherstrip and press down HARD. you should hear a click every ~6 inches from the lip engaging the metal on the door.

    Took me less than 10 minutes to pull mine at the wrecker and cost less than half of what you paid. It's super easy. You just pop off the door panel and unbolt window from it's track so it drops down out of the way and then unclip and pull it off.
