Are there any rumors floating around the blogosphere if there are plans to update the Prius software to be able to mirror the iPhone?
Toyota doesn't accommodate options like that and if they did they'd charge you a really high monthly fee...
Ok…..but what is the software update option for in the infotainment settings? I would think all Toyota has to do is allow mirroring. You can already get the audio from YouTube videos but not the video. It shouldn’t be any different than a TV allowing iPhone mirroring.
On my 2024 Prius Prime I use FERMATA software to mirror my Samsung phone to Android auto and it works great. There is an iPhone version of the FERMATA software, but being with Android, I have never used it. Do a search for FERMATA with iPhone and see how to do it.
Everything is a safety issue nowadays, ever since hysteria was given status as a legitimate concern. While Toyota moved quickly to disable any chance for a 3rd party app to display video on the display screen, BMW actively promotes it. In fact they encourage you to watch You Tube while you drive. POST EDIT: Apparently BMW's policy regarding this has changed. They no longer allow you to watch video on CarPlay. But I can't vouch for whether the 3rd party apps work.
Using my phone as-is is no real trick; I just use it as a display screen from the phone holder. The sound always seems to link to the audio system. I trust myself not to be distracted.
