    NEVER MIND. USER ERROR!!! i will try to figure out how to delete this post.
    =======
    I have searched the forum for V reset instructions or even generation three, but came up empty.

    Today I drove until my range said about ten miles, and then I left the car running while I was parked for a meeting phone call for ninety minutes, and that took the range down to 8 miles.

    I then filled the tank a block away and put in 9.56 gallons and drove away.

    Shortly after I noticed that the fuel gauge did not reset all the way, and it only showed four bars and a range of about 120 miles.

    Now what? I've driven about fifty miles, and the bars are going down and the range is going down. I tried a couple of quick stops to see if I could dislodge any float that might be stuck. No luck.

    Should I try the electronic reset noted for generation two? Should I top off the tank and hope that it resets on its own?

    Did you have the ignition turned off for the entire refueling? My household's other-brand car screws up its fuel gauge when I turn it partly on to take odometer and trip readings for a fuel logbook while refueling is in progress. This gets resolved at the next properly performed refill (car completely turned for entire process).

    Do you have a ScanGauge or other OBDII-port engine monitor? If so, you might be able to get its reading of raw fuel level, to compare to the filtered dashboard fuel gauge.

    Before trying any form of electronic reset, drive some more distance, enough to have consumed at least a couple gallons of fuel since refill, then refill again when convenient.

    Is the range remaining display going down at about the same rate you are adding miles? Or is it going down just 1 mile for every 2 miles driven, as my former 2010 Prius did when I added just a small amount and the fuel gauge didn't reset? If the later, I'd be comfortable continuing until range remaining drops to zero (or more) before refueling.

    Note that the Prius has some safety margin built into the fuel gauge and "range remaining" display. You can safely go a ways passed the 0 miles point. (Also true on my other Toyota that replaced the Prius, but not on our Subaru.)

    BTW, your "profile" still shows a 2009 Prius, not a 2017 v.

    Thank you for the time to create your original response and for telling me about this.

    I will request a delete and report it.

    But just so, you know, my user error was a classic senior moment, I guess. When I entered how much fuel I put in earlier today? It turns out I put in the cost... 9.56. So the pump must have shut off while I was cleaning the trash out of the car and I did not squeeze it any further. So the gauge was perfectly accurate. And I really did only have about a hundred and twenty miles worth of gas!!!

    After I created this post, I went and decided to try to top off. Imagine my astonishment, as the gas tank took two gallons and then three gallons and then four gallons and then five gallons... all the way up to 8 gallons!!

    I couldn't believe it. So I looked up my credit card expense from the gas station earlier and sure enough. It cost $9.56. I feel so sheepish now, and so grateful that I didn't try to drive three hundred miles and actually run out of gas!!

    Also I still own the two thousand nine prius, so I guess I should add this to my profile.
