I currently have 195/65R15 snow tires on, which are standard for the car which is a 2015 series 3. I bought some used 185/65R15 studded tires at a very good price and great condition but I want to make sure they will work as well on the car as the 195's. Also, will the same rims work? The seller will take the tires back if I find out they won't work.
they should fit, but your speedometer will be showing that your moving faster than your actually traveling. Your losing 0.5 inch diameter so speedometer that's reading 50mph, your actual speed will be 49mph.
From the above revs/miles info, yes, it’ll make the car think it’s going roughly 2% slower. just for the record: with the stock tires, if speedometer displays 50 mph the car will actually be going ~49 mph, by design, in accordance with various regulations, the intention being to ensure speed is never underreported. besides the speedometer impact, the odometer, which is typically quite accurate, will also be misled, accumulating miles ~2% faster than actual. Another change, not a benefit with snow: you’ll have lowered the car roughly 1/4”.
I did lift the car with offroad prius lift kit. So in your opinion is it worth it to put on the 185 studded tires if it lowers the car 1/4"? I have been tolsd they help with traction. I live on a hill and the car struggles sometimes with the snowtires I currently have installed.
