Is there a replacement for the base rear-view mirror that includes a Homelink remote? Will the Toyota brand one work as a drop-in replacement considering it's battery powered, or is the mount not compatible? Are there any aftermarket mirrors that would be compatible? Alternatively, is there a good auto-dimming rear-view mirror (also with Homelink) that can be a drop-in replacement? I'm assuming I'd need some kind of adapter since the LE doesn't have a 10-pin connector on the left side.
Yeah... Whatever code Toyota wrote to manage the rear view mirror in Gen5 is gonna suck. I'd encourage you to study all aftermarket options and post to this thread to help other Gen5 Owners. I know 4 or 5 years ago Wolfbox took over the market with most features and best quality and they're still number one: Best Mirror Dash Cameras - Consumer Tested Ratings As in the sooner we can hack our way to all Gen5 Prius monthly subscription features being replaced by upgrades via aftermarket options with no payment requirements the better.
While interesting, to me anyway, I think the OP was not asking about a digital mirror, but an auto dimming, Homelink integrated one. Have you ever had an auto-dimming mirror? I've had several on different cars and I think they suck. Still bright. I like the manual ones better. To each his own though. On an unrelated note, I have a wireless Z-wave switch mounted near the console USB ports-secret tray still removable. I'm surprised it works buried in that location. Good range to the Hubitat hub. Three presses operates gate, one press the garage door. No additional windshield real estate co-opted.
Yeah... I didn't know till after my post how simple the Gen5 rear view mirror was and no monthly subscriber fee for its "features," at least yet. And to your point... Having a dedicated rear view mirror camera via Wolfbox or other company means no more headlight glare, but a way to dim the screen and view the camera image rather than the mirror. Also the security features these devices have are superior to the garbage Toyota offers.
I'm less concerned with the "auto-dimming" part than I am the Homelink part, as I can live with the physical switch. I'm just curious if there's one that doesn't need special hardware that isn't already in my LE since it doesn't have the additional cameras that the higher specs have. On a related note, is the actual mirror mount itself pretty common/universal? It seems like a lot of aftermarket mirrors have options for adapters for brands other than Toyota. I'm guessing whatever one Toyota uses isn't special. If that's the case, any battery-powered Homelink mirror should work, right?
