Why would Toyota discontinue support in the app for 2017 to 2019 Prius Primes? It worked for years. The remote start & climate control was there. The cars haven’t changed. Only the app did. The cars have the reputation for lasting for decades. Not supporting them now makes no sense. Perhaps they could work with Apple & Google on their smartphone apps.

Has this been confirmed by lots of people yet? As I often say Toyota sucks at software and I bet their cost overuns on keeping stuff running are huge. If true, this would be a great opportunity for a 3rd party app maker.

My understanding is 2017-2019 used 3G modems for the connection. Since the FCC basically got rid of 3G to make more room for other things 3G is officially obsolete and cant/wont work anymore. Thus Toyota had to make a choice, TSB/Recall all the cars to "upgrade" them to 4G or simply disable the functionality in the app. There was no choice, they went with the cheaper option.

To quote Ryan in Hunt for red October, "Well that was a guess, but it seemed logical."
