Toyota’s new solid-state batteries promise 40 years of power, longer EV range.

Toyota says it is on track to introduce solid-state batteries (SSB) to its vehicles by 2027-2028.

It promises a range of over 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) on a single charge. The batteries are also expected to be smaller, lighter, and cheaper to produce than existing lithium-ion packs.

Now imagine if these 40 year batteries can also replace all the existing NiMH and Lithium batteries in the existing lineup? Imagine if we hybrid owners can swap and go EV for 20 miles on 40 year batteries

 

They already locked in their battery cathode materials from a metals company. Still on set for 2027 for first models out.

- Toyota has priority to receive the all-important cathode material for solid-state batteries from a supplier starting in 2028.
- It already has a deal with another company for the solid electrolyte, the other key component for a solid-state battery.
- Toyota says its first solid-state-powered EVs could hit the market as early as 2027.
