I bought an OEM battery today. The details on the outside packaging, and the sticker on the battery, match

However, the plastic around the cables were missing, and no documentation was in the box. I looked at videos online and those OEM boxes had the plastic protections, and some replacement plastic parts that were missing in the one I received.

Anything I should worry about? The packaging suggests it may have been opened, but the stickers and such suggest the battery is otherwise fine. This is in SoCal.

Curious how you received your OEM replacement HV batteries.

I've only done Gen2 brand new OEM replacement, not Gen 3 OEM replacement but have worked on lots of Gen3 packs and based on your pictures you have everything you need...

But maybe I'm not understanding the details? More specifically can you please elaborate in much greater detail when you say: "plastic protections, and some replacement plastic parts that were missing..."

Thank you for replying, here is a screenshot from a video I was watching. The new OEM batteries have the connections wrapped in plastic. They also come with spare plastic mounts/fasteners taped to the assembly. Mine had neither.

I am *slightly* concerned the OEM package I received from the dealer may have been either opened in the past, or tampered with? But since the stickers match up, I am at least not concerned that it's an old or fraudulent battery.

Can't help you here, but how much did you pay for this battery? And did you check your existing battery to make sure it's OEM so it will be accepted as core to get your money back? Is the dealer going to refund your core charge as soon as you bring it in or does it need to go to toyota first before a refund is issued?

You can call and ask the Toyota Stealership who sold it to you?

I doubt they're going to give you a different one just because the one you got didn't get enough packaging. Everything you need appears to be included. If something was missing or damaged, but you're probably on your own for not getting some plastic bags included.

    Thank you for your response:

    - $2588 + tax + 1350 refundable core deposit

    - yes existing battery is OEM, car was bought new and this is the first battery change

    - per the parts manager I will be getting it as soon as I return it, but I will come back to this thread to update you.

I just now replaced the battery. It went well. When I turned on the car (brake pedal + button), it was full of error lights, then I did it again (brake pedal+button) and the error lights went away. I wanted to share that in case you encounter it, it was a surprise.

I don't necessarily want a different one, and I certainly don't care about the plastic, more so what it may suggest. Not seeing the packaging makes me concerned it was opened at some point between the distributor and my purchase. Like opening a new cell phone to not find the plastic film on the screen, or plastic wrap in a new appliance. I am only asking for others experience in buying a new OEM battery.

I am asking Priuschat for customer experience, obviously I can call the dealership.

I realize you are being sarcastic by referring to the stealership but the parts department was very professional and the price was surprisingly fair considering my location, and not much more than refurbished batteries. I had a very positive experience at this department. I suggest anyone who is looking to replace their battery to keep an open mind and compare local prices, even at dealerships, they may find a fair price and weigh whether OEM or refurbished works for them.

I've installed the battery and, so far, it is running well and Dr Prius app reports no issues (yet)

i agree, someone opened it. maybe decided it was too much work and returned it? idk if they would take a return or not.
hard to believe it left the factory like that, unless the videos are old, and toyota has changed their protocol.
@ericbecky has done new batteries i think.
    well done, all the best!

$2588.67 is the list MSRP on the battery. There are dealers out there who would sell it for right around $2000. But yeah, if you are not close to them, list price is what you gotta pay. Most dealerships near me want $3200 plus core. I fully support the 'stealership' nomenclature for 99% dealerships.

Some dealers near me also quoted $3000+, I had to drive a bit out of the way to obtain this price (which apparently is list MSRP). No dealer was selling or entertaining selling it for less, perhaps because I live in SoCal where every other car is a Prius.

I appreciate your kind words! It was a nice experience. I'm thankful I had the time, tools, and health (100+ pound) to remove and install.

So far so good, car is running well, not running the engine as often as it did in the past, and Dr Prius battery test has positive results. Fingers crossed it keeps going.
