It looks like dirt and grime is getting under the rear door PPF on both sides. Will the paint get damaged if it stays like this for too long? Does anyone have the part number for this film?
3rd gen had some smaller strips of that nonsense. Ours was in semi-decent condition, not as bad as some I've seen posted, but I opted to remove it. Gentle application of a heat gun, pick at a corner (with just a fingernail) to get it started, slowly peel it off. Do it with bare hands so you've got feedback as to how much heat you're applying. Finished off with a little car wax, all residue disappeared.
You think I should replace it though? It’s there to protect the paint from rocks hitting the paint right? I’m wondering if it’s worth replacing or not.
If dirt, I do not think the paint will stain, deteriorate, etc... get damage. I have never had good luck "detailing" the edges of PPF. (Horsehair paint brush, detailing spray, Q-Tip, a wooden toothpick as sample tools) Your call whether to leave as is, try some detailing, or replace. You should be able to find the parts price somewhere on the 'net. Labor, I could only guess (remove, polish, prep, install)... 1 hour each side? FWIW with my own level of OCD and that beautiful Platinum Blizzard Pearl White paint, I would replace. Good luck with your project
Interestingly, my blue magnetism 2021 Prius Prime Limited came with PPF from the factory on both bumpers, mirror cups, and door handles. There was no port-installed accessory PPF. The factory PPF is probably thinner, but it’s extremely inconspicuous. Most people don’t even know that it is there.
It looks like poorly applied dealer ppf. I would take it back to them if there is a 3 year warranty. Otherwise I would find an XPEL ppf dealer with an indoor shop to remove your ppf and install one of their two ppfs with edge seal.
I don’t think it’s dealer applied. Looking at the salt deposits the road spray makes me think the shape of the car might cause increased hits of debris there. I think it’s factory applied.
