Is anyone else having this issue? Compass screen doesn’t seem to be reliable. Anyone know what would be the cause of this? I tried to look in the manual and the only mention of the compass is on page 95 and does not really say anything else about it.
Last month, it did go out on me and then come back. I was traveling in rural and mountainous areas with spotty cell phone reception. Except for short intervals, I was not in deep canyons where GPS might be iffy. It would be nice to see the prerequisites for the compass to work.
After more than almost 3 years with this car, I can safely say the compass is completely useless. It is blank for me at least 80-90 percent of the time.
According to the manual, the compass is linked to the Navigation system. I don't have a subscription to Toyota's Navigation system but I've seen the compass appear when I have Android Auto connected. I assume it also appears when Apple CarPlay is connected. I don't think it'll appear if none of those services are connected.
I don’t have Toyota nav either. CarPlay. Will try driving around with phone location off and see what happens.
Turned off phone. Took 20 minute drive. Compass worked perfectly. I suspect telematics, ie, DCM. May try disconnecting dcm fuse. edit: Or perhaps it just uses the gps in the head unit. Who knows?
I don’t have Toyota navigation system subscription either but I’m always connected to CarPlay. The compass just only work sometimes.
Same. I did not connect the phone on my drive this morning and the compass worked perfectly fine (without Toyota Nav as well). So, the compass doesn't need Toyota Nav, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to work. I guess you have a problem, @theRob.
