If someone is being dishonest with their thumbnail there's no reason to watch it. Thousands of dishonest crap videos are uploaded to Youtube every second and you're suggesting that we need to click play before judging it? Seriously? With a thumbnail that lies about 0W-20 destroying your engine's lifespan while 5W-30 magically makes your engine look like brand new? Please...
You're so caught up in your bias that you can't even interpret the thumbnail correctly. The thumbnail depicts the "information' being thrown around that 20 will destroy your engine while 30 will keep it beautiful. The upper heading states "where's the proof?" I think that would lead most people to believe this video is going to try to find if there is any fact (ie proof) behind that theory. and that's exactly what it does. Pretty much proving that the "theory" is bs. Kind of like your assumption...
Cars today are controlled by software via the ECU. Just because the same or similar engine model is used in two different countries use 0W20 and 5W30 doesn't mean that both vehicles are programmed the same. Using 5W30 in a car programed for 0W20 will likely be damaging and shorten engine longevity.
In the meantime, I've found slightly better MPG over the course of 200K miles of ownership with full synthetic 0W20 and because Gen3 Prius design switched from 5W30 to 0W20 I'd love to learn more about how they change the software settings to accomodate that, though I doubt that part is in the video.
I do not have to watch certain films to know that they are reprehensible and (in some cases) quite illegal. @ oil.... Facts do not care about people's judgements or feelings. Fact: The mother ship first starting recommending 0W20 in the 'turd-gen' Priuses.....back in 2010. FACT: Priuses are a Japanese car. Built in Japan, whose climate is roughly comparable to that of the east coast of the United States....where cold weather is not uncommon. MANY Priuses are driven in places like Australia where the climate is MUCH warmer.....and have been for as many years. SO.... Will running 0 Dubbaya 20 instead of 5w30 wreck engines? They haven't in the last 16 years. Putting an undersized oil sump and using moronic OCIs AND improper design decisions like low tension piston rings, restrictive EGR circuits, etc. WILL wreck motors......after about 150,000 miles. This will ALSO happen if you run 5w30 in them btw. IMHO..... Most if not all of the 'viscosity conspiracy' videos are hot garbage. Click bait... Really GOOD click bait. Masterfully good click bait!
