Car: 2006 prius. No codes or lights.

For the past 2 or 3 weeks, ive been getting a strong fuel smell coming from my car. It happened suddenly, after I started parking on a steep slope outside my house (used to be flat ground/driveway).

The smell is constantly there, I tried smelling under the hood several times And couldn't smell anything unusual, gas-like. Not sure if it would smell at all because its ventilated, But when I stick my head in the cabin the smell hits you right away, the smell is always there, when car is driving or parked.

So far I have tried a brand new gas cap, but I haven't filled the car since about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I haven't been able to check for leaks because its been raining daily, heavily, and I cant see any wet spots under the car.

    Help please and ty

Wonder if the seal is leaking under the rear seat above fuel tank. But that should throw a code for leak. Pull the rear seat and see if you can smell it there.

Also there is no gas can in the trunk that is not properly?

That's a good guess and your correct, that would throw an EVAP large leak error code.

I'm guessing you may have had a 'rescue' fuel bottle in your wheel well area and it ruptured. Either that or you pissed off your neighbor and you came out before he/she could torch your car.:censored: Just kidding. An exhaust leak would come into the cabin through the HVAC system, but that would only stink-up the cabin when the car is running; NOT while it's sitting. Check all your carpet for wet spots. Any wet spots you find needs to be determined if it's fuel or water.

    Good Luck.....

Would a fuel line leak make it smell? And not throw a code?

Or any other possibility of there being a leak but no code?

Fuel lines run along the car's exterior with the EVAP system; routing it inside the car would be a safety hazard - especially in an accident.
    1. Is the smell there if you just sit in your car without starting it?
    2. Does the smell get stronger while your driving.
    3. Is there a gas smell around your car when you approach it before or after work?

You may want to pull up the rear seat to see if that body panel over the fuel tank is missing. Or you can take it to a mechanic to let them figure it out.......:(

The smell is there even without the car started. The smell is strongest when I first get in the car, then I get used it it. If I step out for a few seconds, then stick my head back inside, it still smells regardless of how long ive driven. Im not sure if its worse when im driving.

If it gets worse when driving what does that mean?

I want to check under the seat but its just been raining so hard here recently.

If the smell is always there, someone spilled fuel somewhere - either live with it or find the spill spot and clean it out. You can also wait until summer time, when the summer heat should evaporate it out of the car. The problem will take care of itself over time.

"If it gets worse when driving what does that mean?" The smell is coming from outside the car and getting pumped into the cabin........

I definetly dont havw a gas can though. Is there ANY chance, that I would smell gas after:

I filled up gas fully maybe topped off (i dont top off but sometimes it clicks early, sometimes a little later than usual, idk) then drove less than 1 mile and parked on a steep incline, didnt drive car for about 1 week? Like, gas leaked out or something?

Fumes from a leak at the fuel rail might find their way into the cabin. That is behind the ICE not far from the cabin intake just in front of the windshield on the passenger side. I suggest starting up the car, running it for a few minutes, turn it off, then sniff around behind the ICE.
